A whopping 2.3 miles midday today at about 15F. I much prefer riding in nasty hot, humid weather to cold temps.
|
I rode a windy 30 miles this morning. I stopped for a break 20 miles into the ride when a guy on a 'bent loaded for touring pulled up. I asked him how far he'd come and how far he was heading. He said he'd left Colorado in October (almost before the snow hit), headed south to Arizona, turned west toward San Diego, headed up the coast (where I met up with him) and was heading to Oregon where he'd turn east through Portland heading east to Ohio. Had a nice visit but I didn't feel quite as tough for battling the morning winds as I pulled out to finish my ride.

I did the Mount Wilson New Years Day ride again. My 10th, I think. Over 100 riders, some crazy stuff, and great weather.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...hn53/GRAPH.png http://ridewithgps.com/trips/10863 It was 47 deg when we started with a 8 mph wind out of the NNW. Not a cloud in the sky. That's about the only thing in common with Big John's picture. We went north mostly so on the return we had a tail wind, which pick up to about 12 mph. Temps got up to 60. None the less, it was a nice ride. |
5 miles in 26 minutes of the trainer today. My first bike experience since the ankle operation on Dec 1. I put a platform pedal on the left side and kept the effort under control. The doctor did a good job of positioning the fused ankle, a smooth pedal stroke will not be an issue.:thumb: I have kept up with the core work during my shutdown.

30 miles with my daughter and a couple of friends. This caps off a great cycling week for me. Of course, tomorrow I have a 70-miler with my club. Monday it's back to work and I am eager to get back.

Beautiful day here in central FL., temp in the low to mid 50s all day so the daughter and I got out for 35 miles this afternoon. Stopped at Panera Bread for coffee and then rode on to Sanford and then home before dark. 0 Gopher Tortoises today 3 Sandhill cranes WV 21 vs Florida State 33 @ the Gator Bowl. Today was the nicest day we've had all week, and I didn't ride. After 183 miles in 4 days (I may have accumulated that much the entire month of Dec.), capped off with a wet but fun 65 mi. tandem ride yesterday, my legs demanded a day off the bike, so we took the dogs on 4-ish mile walk instead.

Sunday 1/03/109 Yes COLD COLD DAY here in central FL., temp in the mid 40s all day, so the daughter and I only got out for 25 miles this afternoon. Stopped at Applebees in Heathro for a cold Sam Adams (2), and chips and dip and watched the Buc's loose to Atlanta, and then rode home before dark. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder so I think I will stay in by the fire. 0 Gopher Tortoises today 0 Sandhill cranes 25.38 (s)miles today 90.96 (s)miles this month 90.96 (s)miles this year 3 ride day(s) this month (Jan.) http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...471837&thumb=1 Mileage goal T/Y 7500 miles Mileage needed to hit goal 7409.04 |
I joined 9 other folks for a fairly hard 11 mile singletrack MTB ride. Lots of climbs and tight turns and rocks. It was about 35F throughout the ride. There was some treacherous ice on a couple of rock outcroppings we crossed. A couple of guys hit the deck slipping on the ice. I walked those section and still nearly fell once. I had enough of the right clothing on to stay warm. I did a lot of zipping and unzipping my jacket to avoid sweating too much on the uphills and freezing on the downhills. I'll sleep good tonight.

66 cold miles. Temps 40* to 46* 14 mph wind. No Sun. I like the sun.....
|
Hasn't been above 20F for several days but, in spite of that, I have ridden every day of 2010!
The pitiful daily average mileage is about 2.4 miles. (Will spin on the trainer this evening) |
Spinervals in the garage. 9 degrees F, 25-30 mph winds, snow and blowing snow.
|
40 minutes on the trainer in the 34/15 gear. Took the platform pedal off and rode clipless at 90 cadence. No lingering after effects on the fused ankle.:thumb:

I did a climbing ride of about 50 miles Saturday after the NYD ride Friday. Wasn't going to ride today but went to the club ride and did 30 miles with more climbing. Long week with some tough rides. Tomorrow I can rest at work.

We went house hunting in north Georgia yesterday (lots of sitting in the car and driving for miles and miles and ... ) so today was ride day. :) While in N. GA I stopped in at Cycle South in Blue Ridge and noticed that they sell only mtn bikes. I asked about road bikes and they said they could order one. Not many folks up that way ride road bikes. They said there aren't many roads that are bicycle friendly. :(
Tomorrow is also ride day because Sunday is work day. I got no room to talk, I rode the excercycle today,,:( |

I did lots of mtn. biking while staying at Camp Pendleton, California, on the coast, over Christmas break. It was a lot of fun, although I got poison oak rash, which I still have. A week ago I came home to the Arizona White Mtns. where I live to find a LOT of snow, so I started cross country skiing every day.
But YESTERDAY I hopped on the ROAD BIKE! It was cold to be biking, at least for me. Probably about 38 or 40 degrees. I was fine at first, but started to sweat and that made me cold. I made about 9 miles, dashed home for some heat, thinking I would change my shirt and go out again, but instead I sat, wrapped in a blanket, in front of the fire! I am not a wuss!! I am not going to give up on riding in the cold, but it looks like I need to toughen up a bit, and get a little bit warmer tights and gloves, or put long underwear on under the tights? Not sure that is possible! I could put sweat pants on over the tights, though. |

Sounds like the ortho doc did a good job and you've done a good job of healing and rehabbing.:thumb:
The doctor told me in the pre-op meeting that because I'm active he would take bike bike riding into consideration when setting the foot position during the fusion. I have been curious and concerned about what that position is. The result is my foot is straight while clipped in, and the position is nearly the same as my other foot at the top and bottom of the stroke. A relief for sure.:thumb: The hamstring and calf are a little sore today. Probably due in part to not being used for over 1 month and the slightly different firing sequence. I made sure to listen to the tire and jockey wheels to make sure the peddling effort was balanced and consistent. |
Doing around 75 minutes a day on my new trainer. Today I will do a little cross country skiing for variety.
|
-14F today, chilly but I got to try the new tires in the slush this morning.
