Thanks, but I can't recall ever finding joy in a win by tech over anyone.

1 hour on the trainer today. Mostly Z3 riding @ 95 rpm. Worked up my first sweat since the end of November. I can't wait to begin to kick it up a few notches over the next week or so as my body adjusts to the fused ankle.
|
Only 20 minutes on the trainer today but spent an hour cross country skiing. Yesterday did 80 minutes on the trainer. Have been averaging that for the past week. Coming home from skiing saw two fellows on road bikes cruising along at 18 mph on mostly dry street. Perhaps will give it a go tomorrow. Main streets pretty bare even with the storm this past weekend.

Oh yes, I missed yesterday because I because of a doctor’s appointment but today I got up early and grabbed the MTB and off I went. About 30 minutes from my home I rode up a 1 mile grade of about 8 percent to get to a lake ride of about 22 miles. But by the time I got to the top of the dam I figured I should snap a picture or two to share with my cycling friends back east. Yes feel free to show me your fall and spring pictures when it comes. I had two layers on because it started out in the high 30s and was about 50 when I took the picture. Got to about 65-70 on the way home. I ended up with 35 miles when I got home and I hope to get a good ride in on the road bike tomorrow.

I'm back at work now and it is cold in Georgia today, so I hit the gym after work. An hour on the recumbent excerbike with a break in the middle to work the upper body and torso on some machines. The first segment on the bike was a steady 90 rpm and about 110 heart rate for 25 minutes. The second session was 35 minutes of hill simulation at a pretty high level with my heart rate peaking around 140 with recovery periods at about 90 rpm. It was not like riding, but it was a good workout and I built up a good sweat. The worst part was that someone had the TV tuned to Oprah.

What day is it anyhow?
Failed to ride on the Fifth. But did ride on the Fourth!
This was the coldest ride for me in recent history! Mid 30s crushing head and cross winds. Fortunately is was mercifully short at 6.28 miles. A good opportunity to tune my riding kit none the less. So, here are my Stats this year.... Weeks Miles 6.28 Month's Miles 6.28 Year to Date 6.28 Tidy stats that cannot stand! |
On the trainer today due to COLD , 40+ mph winds and low temps, did 45 mins., top speed 28mph, while doing "spinning and headbanging" to Ozzy Osborne's No More Tears! ;) Did get in a nice 23 mile Chilly ride yesterday though, layed up, (can't afford the cool gore-tex riding clothes) and rode a mix of paths and streets up to the Garden of the Gods and back home. Very few bikes out but those I met were all smiles, it felt good to be out on the bicycle and off the trainer!

Another hour on the recumbent excerbike in the gym. Boring but a good workout.

January 4, 5, 6 no to cold January 7, yes nice day Temp in the mid 50s today, so I got out for 30 miles this afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder so I think I will stay in by the fire. 0 Gopher Tortoises today 0 Sandhill cranes 1 Deer 31.01 (s)miles today 122.06 (s)miles this month 122.06 (s)miles this year 4 ride day(s) this month (Jan.) http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...471837&thumb=1 |
Six miles around the "hood" on my studded tire MTB. 30-40 mph winds, temps in mid-teens, blowing snow. Had to get out of the house. Actually, it was quite a nice ride. There are a lot of trees to break the wind, and very little traffic. I saw one SUV and one PU truck in an hour of riding.

Trainer again today. 5 min WU, 60 min @ Z3/4 and finished up with 5 minute easy spin to get myself back together. Watched the Paris Tour race stored on the DVR as a diversion. 5th workout since coming back from ankle fusion surgery. Hopefully, when I have my doctor visit on Monday, I will get clearance to start working out again.:innocent:

1-7-10 YES!!!! I have not ridden the road bike since 11-21-09 and it felt so good to ride. I took off a half hour early and it was not too cold, 37F so I tried the new tights I bought the day before.
I have ridden the mtb bike several times this year but I don't record miles on that so I rode 20.1 miles as my first official ride of 2010. It was so nice and it felt like I was floating along. The 700 tires were so quiet and smooth. Man I can not wait till warmer weather so I can ride everyday!!! |
Eighteen miles on the trainer today, Thirty-five degrees and windy, my three day weekend and the high for it is what it is right now.

I've never put a single mile on a trainer, but many bored hours of pedaling and going nowhere. |
1 hour on the rollers listening to some really good blues, followed by two circuits of core exercises while still listening to the blues.:thumb: I hate core work but love the results come summer.

Yes, I did, thank you for asking.
It was a near perfect day in Sloan Canyon, temp in the mid 40s, light breeze out of the north. Got up a good sweat and kept it for 2.5 hours. Only 21.43 miles, but I finally found a passage to get over to Shadow Canyon and thus a couple of Starbucks. Didn't have it in me to make that climb today. |
36 miles on the SART starting in San Berdoo...lot's of people out today. It almost looked like Venice Beach!

It's amazing what a difference being in the other half of the world.
I went for a ride, intending to do 4 mountains, about 3100m of climbing over 200km. However, when the temperature reached 38 deg C (just over 100F) we decided to call it a day and get the airconditioned train. After all, this was just a FUN ride. At those temperatures, on unsheltered mountain climbs it just gets too hot!. I even tried thinking of all the riders on this forum who are freezing at the moment, but it didn't help. We stopped at a McDonalds and put ice in our bidons, but it soon melted. We caught the train one section, cooled down a little and rode home. As we were back on the coast the temperature had dropped down to about 27C (81F) - positively cool. At the end of the day we had riden 180km and 2500m of climbing. Not quite the day we had planned, but still a great day on the bike. |
We did 20+ miles on the tandem today.
It was 40 when we left and 38 when we got back. The new PI Elite softshell tights really work. Fully windproof in front, including the knees. Top speed of 34mph was a bit cold on the face. It will be 17 in CenTX tonight, the coldest weather we've had in 10 years. |
38 miles on wet roads, starting about 40 degrees and rising to 47 by the end. No rain - great day to be out riding.
|
Spent a cold day indoors, working on three bikes. Cold again today but I'll try to get in at least a short ride on each bike.

Greetings. This is my first post in the 50+ forum and I meant to post this yesterday. 56 miles. A major milestone (no pun intended) as it was my first ride over 32 miles. Started riding after getting a road bike as a 50th birthday gift from the lovely missus back in September. Route was my home in Corona to the Santa Ana River Trail to the Honda Center rest stop in Anaheim and back. 77 degrees. Slight 3-4 mph wind. Felt great. Recovery ride today.

Welcome...good to have another So Cal rider here. I rode the River Trail yesterday as well, but I did the upper half in San Berdoo/Riverside. Congrats on the ride and keep with it! |
Temp is supposed to be above single digits for the first time in a while. Still a lot of snow on the ground/streets but I might get on my sons MB and take a quick spin.
Might even be able to resume commuting this week. |
