20 miler with whitecaps on the bay and that means wind. Too much wind for me. Cussing and pedaling.
|
16.5 miles, it was rougher than I anticipated probably because I didn't bring any water. Losing over 4 pounds of water weight in an hour, obviously I was wrong and needed some ... burned all my matches on a few hills and crawled home :o No worries though, they can't all be perfect rides.

Weather turned out to be quite nice this morning for a really nice 35 mile ride.
|
15 miles (best estimate - computer battery died) on the Screamer after work today.
|
20 miler. Hot and windy like yesterday. Lots of rain in forecast starting tomorrow.
|
Twenty miles riding to and from work today. Very, very nice weather.
|
12.4 miles @ 19.8 ave this morning before work
|
Twenty miles with some wind but the temps were below 90 which made the ride a bit more bearable.
|
A very nice and interesting, 44 mile ride this morning. It includes being chased by a pit bull that broke away from it's owner and stopping for a friend's girlfriend that took a nasty fall while in a pace line with people she had never ridden with.

15.75 Miles, 55 minutes, 17.2 ave mph, 1236 kcals burned, 86 degrees, 60% humidity, winds 10 mph.

13 after-work miles on the tandem this evening.
|
26.74 today. Sun wasn't bad and temp wasn't too high. Winds were down and I felt strong.

Very nice 35 miler this morning. Very nice weather for riding.

Yesterday morning actually, 17 mi. @ 21.0 mph avg. PR's on both the outbound and return legs.

I started out intending a nice long ride on my final day off, but nature conspired against me. First the demented hornet landing on my thigh, clinging on at 20 mph stinging me? What's up with that? I've never had them hanging on like that before. I considered stopping, who knows what all that neurotoxin could do to the heart rate if I pushed it to 95% or so, but I didn't really feel it. I guess I get some endorphin after all. So I didn't stop - but a few miles later the wind whipped up, then with the thunder and rain I said enough is enough and cut it short at 20 miles. 18.0 mph since we're reporting speeds here, it seems like I had some slack for better since I got one PR out of that but it was not to be.

20 miles in 68 minutes. Lost 2-3 minutes at a traffic light on bypass. I want to hit 60 flat one day. This is the end of my sixth week of biking. Feels great. Down twenty pounds and a great stress outlet. I want to get faster !!

Friday - Twenty miles to and from work.
Today - 45 miles (including riding to and from the start) on a club ride - on the Screamer with my favorite stoker. Started and ended in downtown Indy, next to the course for the Indy Criterium. Club picnic lunch in a park alongside the race course. Then the rains came and we rode home in mild, non-stormy showers. Not so bad. |
I went down to the river, where it's flat, for sprint intervals. 96 degrees, with a "heat index" of 103 but honestly it didn't feel anywhere near that hot. It's strange, but all of the time I've been cycling I've never done actual high intensity intervals before, or even seen what my top speed was! So these were sloppy with lots of rest in between, and humbling that I can only keep an effort up for 20 seconds or so. I did hit almost 34 mph once though, slightly uphill, which is more than I expected and maybe something I can build on.
On the climb after the intervals, I went as slow as possible because of the heat (and I was beat) but Strava says it was my second fastest time. I still haven't figured that out, except that I suck at climbing. |
66.0 @ 17.5 on the club ride today. Warm morning (temps 86-96) and somewhat humid (dew pt 60-54) but kind of typical for Phoenix in July

102 miles on the Allegheny "Gran Fondo" ride out of Covington and Clifton Forge, VA. It was a really gorgeous day for a ride. I've heard of this event before, but it was always too far away from me to be convenient, but now I'm practically a "local" so I signed up. The local people really went all out for support. In fact it was pretty overkill in some ways as they had cops and flaggers at practically every intersection. Unfortunately the attendance was pretty low. In a small field I have less chance of being a "mid-pack" rider. I wasn't the last one in, but there weren't too many people behind me.
The ride included a really, really hard climb up Warm Springs. Wowza. Constant 12% grades going up higher than that, really steep switchbacks etc. This is one of the harder climbs I've ever done: Garmin Connect |
57 miles, 2200 feet of climbing @ 19.4 mph with my club's A group yesterday. I was whipped at the end of the ride. Had a scare about half way through. . .We had twelve in the group riding in a double pace line. I was riding on the outside, mid pack on a flat section moving about 23 mph when I managed to drop off the pavement. I corrected, got back on the road, but had to drop off again to avoid hitting another rider. The road is tree lined, and I brushed a couple before coming to a stop. I managed to stay upright throughout. Lesson learned? It only takes a moment of inattention!

This morning, heavy fog, the deer were everywhere, 41 mi. @ 20.4 mph.
