Yes, I rode...sorta'. But really not.

Took the commuter out, and due to last night's snowfall, it was tough going. Unplowed roads with a six inch topping, all rutted up from car and bus traffic.

What really spooked me though, was that the roads are closing in on me! Most of the way out of my neighborhood have the streets lined with a 3-4 foot wall of plowed snow on each side that seems to be narrowing by the day. I found it prudent to dive into a driveway when school busses passed in either direction. Add that to sliding around despite the studded tires, it just doesn't seem like a safe plan.

I made it a mile before chickening out. Did 10 yesterday, conditions were slightly better. But, I'm used to two hours + on the trainer. But at this time of the year...."Don't make me stare at the wall, Master...please, no more trainer...I'm begging you!!"

Double ride yesterday (Tue), 9mi in the AM fog (w/all kindza blinking lights on the trike, fore & aft) for a total of 19.8. Tried a speed run on the flats - 19mpg. Whew!
Double ride today, AM in the cold, Afternoon in the chill - 14.1mi. 98% on the bike path, er, what portions weren't closed. The City of Sparks tree trimmers are seriously interfering with my triking exercise. Uh, how come I'm the only die-hard cyclist out in 32° morning weather? Wimps!
Getting the legs back, especially the upper thighs (different on a trike). But I'm loving it (McDonald's - eat your heart out).

Did my little "Le Tour de You-Know-Where". For the first time in about two weeks it hasn't either rained, had gale-force winds (or both).

qcpmsame 02-05-15 06:19 PM

25.5 miles this afternoon, north winds were stiff, 25-30 mph. After losing two days to weather I was determined to ride today. Beautiful day and cool temperatures made it a great day.

20 mile round trip to work and back, just like any other day.

It freaks me out every time I see a post of yours. My first name and last initial are the same. It's weird.

Rode the trainer ... again. When can we go outside to play?

Just as soon as you clean your room, do all of your homework, and eat all of your vegetables, Beaver. Wally has already done his chores, too. Golly gee, mom.

Hey folks, Had a great ride today! Did 27.8 at a high cadence and not high speed.Stayed on the little ring with in 8,9,10. Worked my butt off. Next ride will go for speed. Starting to alternate on each ride. Was 17f when I started and 32 when I finished. The wind held off so it was OK!

Rode to the bank (closed), then off to our local Home Depot (like I was going to be able to get that foam on the back of the bike:lol:), back to the bank (finally opened), then home. . . .

tigat 02-06-15 03:41 PM

42 sunny miles on the road, then 10 more withy my daughter lapping the neighborhood. Not going to pass up a chance of 65 degrees in February.

Across town , in the rain to get info on Medicare. vs VA becoming a Biller for care like Insurance companies .

25.5 miles this afternoon, very nice day out. Even the winds have backed down, for a welcome change.

My Specialized Diverge came in (a dedicated gravel bike, also suitable for long-distance road riding.)

Did a little 25 miles shakedown cruise, about 80% road, 20% gravel, with about 2800ft of climbing, so it was pretty hilly all the way. I need to work on the saddle position a bit more. I ended up with a bit of saddle sore from the Phenom saddle. I'm used to a Fizik Antares. I think the saddle will be fine, after some adjustment. I may have to go to a 34-tooth cassette however. I was in the lowest gear a lot more than I expected, and had to stand up to get up some of the 16-18% sections. The tires are pretty smooth also and I had some difficulty keeping traction when standing up on the climbs. Overall I'm pretty excited. This is really going to open up a lot more route possibilities where I live.

Jim, you or I should say your riding amazes me. 2800 ft in a "little" shakedown ride. And only 16%? (I'm envious really)

I rode a "little" 20.3 mile ride this morning. 1225 ft with overcast sky and drizzles. Got these Craft gloves for Christmas and have to say that I love them. Temperatures today though, 42F, are about as warm as I'll wear them.

I rode about 30 miles today, it was between 32° and 35°F while riding, thankful for a mild winter here in Minnesota.

jppe 02-07-15 06:49 PM

90.5 miles with 8000' of climbing. Explored some new roads in Western NC. Took on some 13-16% grades. Slow but steady.

qcpmsame 02-07-15 07:19 PM

Very enjoyable day out, it reached 66ºF and the skies were blue bowl, all day. 25.5 miles again, more to come tomorrow with the forecast showing much the same, and warming more, too.

Jim, that is very impressive, you however do know the rules, pictures of the N+1 are required here. C'mon man post them up.

Where JimF rides now it's hard NOT to get 2800' of climbing. He rides in a really gorgeous part of the world.

Greybeard712 02-08-15 10:17 AM

Rain and wind in the forecast but I'm gonna try for a few miles today. I feel like two-wheeling it today.
Here's one way to get your exercise:

Weekend report: 10 miles Saturday by myself and 20 miles today on the Screamer with my favorite stoker. First 2015 tandem ride. :) Dry and in the 50's today! Won't last..................

JimF22003 02-08-15 05:26 PM

I've been remiss :( Pics of the new bike next weekend hopefully. I need to get back to a place where I have a white garage door.

Saturday I did 58 miles on the road bike, about 4500 ft. of climbing. Hooboy am I out of shape. Just signed up for Mountains of Misery so now I need to get serious about getting into riding shape.

Sunday I was back on the new Diverge.

https://www.strava.com/activities/252270255

Ride was at least 80% on gravel, but about 12 miles of it was on the C&O canal, so that was dead flat. The rest had some serious steep stuff, like 18 to as much as 22%. There were still icy spots on some of the higher elevations, and on parts of the C&O, so the roads were pretty muddy. Got the bike seriously filthy, but I guess that's the idea :)

Moved the saddle back about .5" and I think it's dialed in pretty well now:

Same thing as usual, here. 25+ miles, beautiful day out, again, clouds are moving in but no rain in our forecast for at least a week.

Did the usual, with a couple more hills thrown in for fun... . .
