37 miles today with a friend. We started with a group from our local bike club, but they were doing 50 miles so we broke off onto another route about 11 miles into the ride. I'm trying to work up to the 50 mile Le Tour de Bayou route I've signed up for on Sept. 19, but I wasn't ready today for 50.

Nice group at LBS for a 0800 start. Ride ended 37 miles later after some good pounding for this older guy. Not being enough for the day I continued on and finished with 81. Fresh beet juice about 1.5 hours before the ride seems to have helped out once again.

Home from Montauk and back on the home roads 53.1miles @ 17mph with 1434 ft elevation gain. Hot (89 deg) but not too humid. Felt old and creaky for the first 45 min. I have to keep telling myself give it time your old bones will come around.

Fun but different day. On the road at 6 am, rode 22 miles to meet up with friends. Rode 50 miles with friends and took a long break for grilled burgers. Then rode the 22 miles back home.

Sorry no pictures (I forgot my camera)...

But I did go out on a nice 26 mile ride earlier today. 1 hr 37 min and an avg 16 mph speed. What a difference in handling with those new Kenda K35 tires on my old '85 Fuji Del Rey, versus having those K161 knobby cyclocross tires on! Wow!

Friday afternoon I did a nice 40 mile ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway from the James River north and back.

Saturday I was planning a somewhat epic 100 mile ride in Bath County, VA. I got to my first stop about 20 miles out and realized I had forgotten my seatbag with tools and tubes. Double d'oh! Riding around in those beautiful hills and valleys with no cell phone coverage, and hardly any traffic, is probably fool-hardy to begin with. Doing it without backup tubes would have been pretty stupid, so I turned around and went back. Ended up with about 50 miles.

Kind of disappointing, but since I didn't burn out too much on the ride, I can try for another long ride on Sunday.

Did a 65 miler yesterday. Pretty much set my personal cruise control at 17.5 and enjoyed the day before the hot weather settled in.

Did the hardest 15 milesI have ever done on a bike. The steepness and frequency of the hills was unbelievable. 92 degrees outside. Had to walk the last 100' up one hill.

I got 30 miles in yesterday. My longest ride of my 3 month return to cycling. Basically the same ride as last weekend - look a page back for pics if interested - with a side tour over bumpy taint busting bike lanes out to Venice Jetties. The sidewalk was a better return alternative.



Got a new seat - Selle Royalgel - which really helped the nether regions. Measured my sit bones and this one fits better than the stock seat. Also added Ergon bar ends. Not quite sold on them. Yes, they added different hand positions which helped but just felt like my hands were too far outside my body, like I was reaching. Found I really liked holding the bar near the stem and leaning over a bit. Felt faster and less pressure on the hands. I think I'll get get padded bar tape and wrap it.

Reading about guys who mount bar ends near the stem in a 'sorta' aero bar deal. Any comments about that? (See the bike I ride in my profile)

I averaged 11.8 with stops. My riding splits were high 13 to low 14. Decided to not pause the app when I stop. Gives me more motivation to not stop as long.

For a 60 year old guy who hasn't ridden in 40 years, I'm kinda happy with my progress. I'm at 100 miles per week and my 'bonk' point keeps moving up each time I ride. Now I have to not get too cocky and hurt something.

No ride Thursday -Friday - severe tendonitis right hand. I played the "Hurry up and wait" game at the VA Emergency. Did get some Predsione, but no pain meds. Then this morning the other hand started cramping and aching. Gimme a break, Ma Nature!
16.2 miles on the trike Saturday (wearing wrist brace). 15.6 on the Roubaix today with the wrist brace and a cloth brace on the other hand. Sheesh! But I got my ride in anyway.

Needed to check on a friend's house I keep an eye on while he is away for the summer. 10 mile ride to the house so I hopped on the Giant. Got back home a little later than expected after a very warm 65 miles.

Thank you, and yes it is, a mid-70's Masi Gran Criterium from Carlsbad, CA. That particular bike is unusual, a Calsbad Masi with no serial number, which says it was built by an employee for himself. The investment cast lugs went into production in late 1975 and the practice of employees building a bike for themselves was stopped in mid-'77. So that's the best we can date it. I call it a '76 because that is the greatest chunk of time when it might have been built. Its history between then and about 1978 or '79 is a bit of a mystery. I was given the frame and a box of parts, some of which were probably on the bike from back then and some of which clearly weren't. The Campy NR RD has a custom cage made by a BF member. It has half-step 2x6 gearing and tubular tires on wheels I built with FIR GL125 rims. It is truly wonderful to ride. For some reason it felt like 3/4 of today's ride was downhill! But then, it always feels like that.

56 tandem miles on a club ride in the flatlands starting near Noblesville and heading north and back. Saws lots of fields full of corn and soybeans. Didn't see any flooded roads.

Just got back from my "daily workout route". Did my best to push it "just about as hard as I have ever done. 20 miles on combination path/parkway/street crossings. There is some wind out. But I was a bit disappointed in my performance. I attempting to slowly increase my avg mph. I am not going for "race status", but would like to be able to ride with my local bike shop group. They ave 18-19 on a 30 mile route. My "best" split was 17.5. I checked tire pressure when I got home and they were only at 2/3 max. That might have contributed to it a bit. I sure would be happy if I could avg 18mph on 25 mile ride.
