1.5 hours on the trainer with two 15 minute efforts at just sub-threshold in a 53x15.

It wasn't the 10 degrees that kept me in, it was the 15 mph wind.

Went out at 7 to be greeted by 45 deg and a 9 mph breeze out of the north. Sun was out and not cloud in the sky. Headed north as usual and after 4 miles met with with friends for coffee. Got on the road again at 8;30 and went up to the "loop" in north parkland. Did 6 8 min. 95% heart rate intervals (6 min at 95%, 2 min rest)

Didn't feel very strong today. Don't know if it was the wind or the cold.

Sore this morning after a 105 mile ride yesterday with 6K in climbing. Taking a few days off work and getting some extra rides in. Yesterday at the start I was still tired from the weekend which featured a century where I pushed myself a bit. Wish I was 40 again.

Nope...it was 12f and the roads are a mess from the snow, etc. so I ran for a bit over an hour...I've got my running mentality back again as well...smooth and effortless...haven't felt that way in a long time.

Sorry guys, but the weather was perfect here today. 26deg C (about 79F). Not long till the northern hemisphere summer is back.

After a quite a few days of rain, which we're not used to here lately, it was great to have a nice day. Headed off on the tandem and did about 50km down and back to Kiama on the coast. There are some great bike paths that have absolutely stunning views. Great to be on the bike, fantastic not to be at work today.

Have a great new year everyone and great riding in 2010

Don't you ever have an off-season? I'm asking because you can really get to a point where your fitness just stagnates or actually drops from lack of rest. Periodization FTW!

You're right and this time of year I usually don't get a lot of miles in. Work has been so slow and I have a little vacation time that I can't roll over, so I have had more time to ride lately.
I will be back to weekends only soon enough, unless I get laid off.

14 miles out the rain began to pour so I scurried back in for a hot shower. A woman at a stop light rolled down her window and asked me if I was having fun. I gave her a thumbs up....she was probably thinking "positive attitude" while I was thinking "sit on it".

16 miles in the rain (and fairly cold for me at 45F). Would have gone further but my hands and feet were getting cold and the light rain was getting heavy.

Why do we do this again?

Motivation comes from curious sources. At the last Holiday gathering I attended, I made a commitment to bring the Champagne for tonight’s festivities. I was not only motivated, but inspired to run the last errand of the year!

That said, I was off riding into a cloudy, drizzly and cold evening. It turned out to be a great ride! The drizzle stopped shortly after I left home, my winter kit worked well at 39F and I am actually looking forward to my next trip to Salem Lake.

Only 6.92 miles out and back the pace was brisk and the load light on the return trip. Later I will raise my glass to everyone here! Salute! Happy NEW YEAR!

Stats
Load: Approximately 10 lbs
Miles Today: 6.92
Weeks Miles: 20.25
Months Miles: 74.20
Year Since June: 1081.04

Bikes: 2011 ICE Sprint Special Edition

New Years Day Ride, Jan. 01, 2010

Well, thankfully it didn't SNOW on the 31st. like they thought it would and New Years Day dawned cold but SUNNY!! The high temp (at 1PM.) was going to be 40F so I put on the layers and headed off in 35F degree weather with a brisk feeling 5-10 mph. breeze. Man it felt SO GOOD to be on the bicycle and NOT on the resistance trainer, that's where my butt's been planted for the last 2 weeks due to ICE on the roads and temps too low for it to melt till the last couple of days! Yea I did have to do a lot of "finding the path" thru ICE still thick and wide in the shady spots, especially on the streets and trails heading east/west, north/south streets and trails were in pretty good shape.

I was trying to hook up to the "Pikes Peak Greenway Trail" but there was so much ICE, I went down a road I hadn't before and found something kinda cool! It was a Trolley Car Museum/Station I didn't know existed, back in the early days of Colorado Springs, I guess these were a normal everyday sight! So I took a couple of photos and will have to return when it's open to check it out!

One funny thing is that the city dug out what they call a "trunnel", (bikeway under the street) that's on the main path I use to head to downtown Colorado Springs, during the summer months I won't use it as it's full of broken glass, sharp rocks, thron's, etc.!! Today however they must have run a plow thru it as it was "clean", nice, too bad they couldn't run a sweeper thru it in the spring/summer months, it's a lot safer than crossing that intersection for sure! Well it was getting chillier with the stronger wind coming but it was great to be outside and get in a New Years Day ride too!

Miles: 15.73
Avg. Speed: 7.79 (Way too much DANCING for New Years Eve, tired leg syndrome!!)
Top Speed: 20.7
Wind: 5 to 15 mph.
Sunny

Managed to squeeze in a windy 15 mile road ride between football games and heading to my parents' house for collard greens, blackeyed peas and ham. Sunny and 50F with a 15mph wind in middle Georgia today.

Roads and MUT sorta dried up after sleet and freezing rain on the 31st, so I managed a 12 miler in overcast, calm, 42 degree weather. MUT was blocked and unusable in places so had to either just onto the adjoining road or climb the snowbanks left by the plows. My New Year's resolution is to pay no attention to average speed and only record time and distance covered. Who cares how slow I am!

I can hear the wind picking up outside ... gonna be cold and very windy over the weekend... will see what a wimp I am tomorrow. With the wife away for a while at least I have no adult supervision... now where did I put that banjo?

Happy New Year

Pete

Spent the night at the inlaws house on the Lake-shot off shotguns at midnight. This morning I did some repairs on the gas logs in the fireplace and also did some electrical work on a kitchen light fixture-between my house repair skills and the grandkids we've given them they don't mind me coming over. The kitchen light repair took two hours-had to remove the fixture solder in the two wires into the ceramic base my Father in law had ripped out of the fixture.

Anyway-I had planned to leave earlier and ride my bike back to our house. With the chores I had just enough time to make it back before sunset. It was 52 miles -probably averaged around 17 mph. The temps were high 40's and a slight headwind for most of the ride. I love riding with temps in the 40's as long as there is not too much wind-very refreshing. Nice way to kick off the New Year!!

Rained most of the day here in central FL., temp in the low 50s all day so the daughter and I didn't get out until about 4 this afternoon. Stopped at Panera Bread for coffee and then rode most of the way home in the dark.
