Only 5 miles rain and bad leg cramps cut my ride short I was planning on 10 miles today 😞

Plans vs. Nature

I wuz planning 8 mile r/t on a local lane for today, +400' elevation change in under 4 miles. 30 mph gusts that'd have been in my face the whole uphill segment gave me second thoughts... return downhill would have been exciting though!

Does this count?

I also did this...

It has not been a great year for fitness. Got into a motorcycle accident in May (not my fault) and am just getting back to fitness cycling.

The older I get, the harder it is to get back into any sort of fitness after a period of inactivity, so I count today as a win.

I'm having a rough time getting out this month I been averaging 60 miles a month. I don't have 20 in August. Been day I just don't feel good. Then when I recover enough to get out it's storming . Yesterday I had to cut my ride short because of leg cramps. Today I took it easy, I went exploring a park. There is a 1.5 mile loop . 2/3rds gravel . It is close so if I don't have much time or storms are coming in I can get back to the vehicle quickly

I got up way to early this morning, so I waited until 6 am to get out on the bike and ride. I rode for 15 miles. Not as much as I had planned in my head last night. Anyway, it was a pleasant ride with the temp at 60 f degrees and mostly sunny.

My wrist injury has healed well enough I decided to get out on my STI equipped bike. I've not had the hand strength to shift the front derailleur and while it was painful today, I managed. I've missed being out when the sun rises and this was a good day.

Bikes: frankenbike based on MKM frame

Almost 15 miles with son and 13-year old GS. Man, GS is hard to bike with! They keep changing speeds, and I find it hard to adjust. At 13, he rides a 22" bike; I ride a 21". Hot and humid, and together they hit me hard.

It's been HOT here all week. Tonight's group ride was called off because of the temperature index. Still, I got on the bike and started out for a solo ride. Nope, it's just too hot to enjoy riding. After 10 miles I had finished my water bottle and was drenched in sweat. At least I can say I rode.

I did ~ 5.5 miles on Saturday on my MBGR, first half the uphill (~ 315') direction on a local secondary road, then back down to where I'd parked the car. Half an hour on the bike. Sunday got more into doing distance w/o the elevation changes of that Saturday route, did 14 mile w/500' elevation gain r/t on local bike path, 1:11 on the move.

Thigh muscles really told the tale Monday at work, Tuesday too and a day off to take it easy. Major heat yesterday & again today, THI around 115° both days, I'm sitting it out until conditions change this w/e!

Hello! This is my first post here. Since retiring I had been taking daily walks of 2-3 miles. Well I decided I needed to build stronger muscles in my legs than I was getting from my walks. So I started riding my ol' cruiser. Heavy 1 speed coaster brake. Lately I wanted something better but not knowing what. So instead of spending a bunch of money I ordered a hybrid online. I've had it about 2 weeks and jump on it nearly every morning. Bought a little GPS unit(Meilan Mini GPS) to see how far I was riding. Best so far was 11.53 miles. Had to take a day off after that ride. I've rode 8-9 miles daily after that rest day.
Today I rode to the library. Returned some books(glad I put my rear rack on and a small bag). Then finished up at 8.33 miles.
Wish I could post a pic but can't yet. I'm 69 and enjoying myself. I'm also enjoying reading your posts
Hope to post regularly,
Lee

Did a couple of rides with son and 13 year-old GS last week. Very difficult, since GS has NO concept of pacing. Sometimes 10 mph was too fast for him; sometimes 15 mph wasn't fast enough. At one point, he stayed fast much longer than I expected, and I didn't catch up until he was flat out of energy, 4 miles from home. They went home yesterday.

Today I was able to do my 1st normal ride in over 2 weeks. 20 miles, sunny, light S wind, fastest 20 miles I've ridden this year.

25 on Wednesday, 25 today. Bought and ate an almond croissant Wednesday at 12.5 miles, ate an apple today. Performed better today. The croissant tasted a little sweeter, though. Today was the fastest 25 miles of 2023, as fast as the fastest 20 earlier this week, but Garmin and Strava were not impressed. Screw 'em. I'm the customer. I don't trust their algorithms. I trust their distance, speed, cadence, HR reporting, but not the way they integrate the data.

Today's ride was interesting in that I fell on my bike. I was on the mup and there were big trucks working cutting tree branches. I stopped and was planning to walk my bike as I passed the truck. Well the truck driver gave me the hand up meaning stop. So I waited and then he moved his truck forward which was toward me, so I started backing up and apparently walking my bike backwards is not a skill I have. I fell ontop of my bike. There were 3 trucks out working on the mup this am.

Then on my way back home after work. I went a different way and extended my ride by 10 miles. It was beautiful riding today. I think going forward I will be taking that ride home.

I had a nice ride today. New route. Only made one wrong turn. Found a way thru without turning around. A mile from home I took a tiny branch to the face. Turned out I just cut my lip but I could taste blood and I my imagination got away from me. Though maybe I had blood all over my face. Headed home before I scared anyone. Still got in 13.04 miles in spite my disfigurement. LOL

Funny. Reminded me of when I had a bad nose bleed about 5 miles from home with a hill climb (read: pounding heart with HR at 160) at the end. Looked like someone had beat the crap out of me with blood down my face, on my jersey and drips on my bike.

New record for this newbie. 15.13 miles this morning. Overcast and high 60's helped. Rode about as far south as you can where I live. Took a picture of my bike and the ACE Train Station sign then headed back north.
Sorry can't post pictures as of yet.
