25.25 miles, beautiful weather this afternoon, warm temps (80°F.) and mild winds from the SSW.

Fairly short 8 miles this evening on a route that's hilly and generally unpleasant due to traffic, but good for conditioning because I have to blast uphills and sprint to avoid being run over. I try to ride this route maybe once a week.

Nice and windy, 37 mile, solo ride this morning. Still trying to get used to the sun being up at 6:00 AM. Just seems to make the day feel so much longer.

I got back a little while ago... Now let me upload some links from Photobucket of my ride that I did earlier just after lunch.

A quick "screen print" from MapMyRide website. No, I didn't start at 7:00am - that's wrong - I left at 11:45am.

A view of Tuckahoe Creek (i.e. swamp) along River Road at Henrico & Goochland county line in Virginia.

A view of the James River from the Huguenot Bridge (looking up river).

And lastly, a view of the "Z Dam" on the James River, along Riverside Drive.

Glorious fall day today, unheard of temperatures in the mid 60s, clear sky, hardly any wind. Put in about 50 miles on the fixed gear bike.

Beautiful but windy day. 67 deg and bright. 21.8 miles total including an interval workout. I'm in the midst of an interval all I can hear is the wind and the bike. I finish the interval and sit up. Well unbeknownst to me there's a guy sucking my wheel. Totally didn't know he was there and when I sat up he freaked out and shot around me on the right. To top it off he has the gall to give me grief as he goes by. First of all I'm doing a solo workout minding my own business so let me know you're there and second how about passing on the left. Good Lord give me a break.

18 miles riding to and from a short work day. Cool - 40ish - in the AM but perfect 70's sunny weather for the midday ride home. (Off to dentist and election site in the afternoon)

Had a good ride Tuesday afternoon, gray skies out, but no rain or wind to deal with. Cooler temps are drifting back into the picture here, nothing cold, by a long shot though. 25.3 miles in the rider's diary.

Very short ride this evening, around 30-45 minutes, mostly to get used to some new all terrain tires. Got some Michelin Protek Max Cross 700x40 rubber to replace the loosey goosey fitting Specialized Hemispheres. Since my rides occasionally involve unanticipated encounters with unpaved trails, road repairs, grass, gravel - rough and smooth, loose sand, mud, etc., I wanted to get a sense of how the bike and tires respond. So I've been trying the tires at 60, 70 and 80 psi on a mix of surfaces.

So far, so good, seems to handle everything pretty well, and no flats on the same terrain that flatted the Hemispheres a few times (mostly goat head grass burrs, some other debris). Definitely not as nimble as the Hemispheres at low speed, especially on wet grass, or as light feeling uphill on pavement, but otherwise very sure footed.

Only misstep I encountered was trying to climb back out of a concrete storm drainage channel. Had a slip that I quickly caught with one foot down. My fault - I'd ridden through some slimy wet puddles, then tried to climb the culvert at an angle rather than straight on. I'm tempted to tell myself "Don't do that!" since I'm nearly 58, with no serious trail riding experience, and have been riding again only a couple of months after a 30-year hiatus. But it's hard to refuse that temptation to a challenge.

Went to have lunch with my Father in Law, took off down the San Gabriel River Bike path. Total round trip was 19 miles. Great lunch, good ride. Blowing crosswind most of the way. Rode my Trek X-cal 7 with smooth Surfas Slider tires. It is getting easier each time I go out. Note to self, keep mouth closed or get a bandana for all the hatching bugs flying about!

I set a goal, get down to 195 and treat myself to a Trek road bike! I have a peugeot corbian right now. It's getting a tune up since I fell over in my new spd clips. Yeah I know, Its a learning curve.

I try to ride and enjoy myself, but find I want to go, go, go!

25 miles in the dry on a single while the wife took a dressage lesson. 45°-50° and way overdressed. Had to stop and get rid of the undershirt under my softshell, which got all sweaty anyway. Tights were too warm, too. Hard to get used to going back and forth between wet and dry. Endurance ride, didn't eat or drink. Had fun. Got a PR and a few 2nd and 3rds. Missed a PR on my sprint hill by 1 second, very encouraging since I'm so outa shape.

Dressage riding: At halt, Salute! I remember those days, going to the stables with our daughter ,the smell of leather saddles, jods on, those beautiful knee high boots polished up, man I miss those times. Her going to USPC nationals, the shows out of town, wowwwww.

Wednesday afternoon's ride was the usual distance, 25.6 miles. I'm getting the miles in before this weekend's front that is supposed to move through Saturday evening.

Very late start this morning after having to help my son-in-law with his stalled car. Temps in the upper 80s when I started but the breeze made it somewhat enjoyable. Had to leave the bike at the house when I went to help the SIL so on the way home, the wife said she would drop me off at the MUP and I could ride her trike. It's a lot different pushing a 32 pound recumbent trike than riding a 17 pound road bike. I even got some sunburn on my legs from wearing cargo shorts rather than cycling shorts. A good 35 miles on the ICE trike with some sore legs from using muscles I didn't know existed. Hope the legs are ready for tomorrow's ride.

Yesterday I got in a 35 miler in warm bright but still windy conditions. Different story today. Had to get out earlier than usual to make a doctor's appointment. Foggy when I set out but instead of burning off it turned into rain. AT least it was still mild with calm winds. Did a couple of threshold intervals cut it at 20 miles. Major bike cleaning when I got back from the Docs.

Started yesterday off with standing in a line at 0645 at local blood letting lab for monthly prostate cancer blood work. Drawing done, back home and off on a 45 miler with good group of riders. First ride with a new 20mm shorter stem that turned out to be awesome. Legs still not recovered from Saturday's 200 miles so I wasn't able to stay with them for entire ride. Went out again at 1700 with friend for another 25 miles. Much slower ride and legs felt much better.

Heading out for a 5K walk with wife in 20 minutes. Have a half marathon in 3 weeks and sure hope we get some cooler weather. 89F yesterday.....

Warm and muggy yesterday, it was 82ºF and 85% humidity when I was riding. The winds were negligible so no help there, fall is supposed to be here. 26.4 miles and looked to include as many of our rollers as possible to do some extra work.

Got in a nice and windy, 45 mile, solo ride this morning. Most of the winds were crosswinds but they were enough to cause one to sway all over the road. Good thing the street portion of my route doesn't have very many cars on it and has a wide bike lane.

Well, what does one do after waking up at 0100? Get dressed and head out at 0143 for a very quiet 25 mile bicycle ride, of course. Will be heading back out after the sun comes up for another 50+ miles. Going to be too nice of a day for working around the house.

Made it out at 0740 for part two. Added an additional 77 miles for 102 total.

A nice 40 mile ride with my buddy Frank. Still very hot and very humid. Feels like mid July.
