This week was full of commuting, the usual 32 mile round trip every day. So today we took the tandem out for 53.85 miles. The day started out feeling like late September, ended up like late November.

1st ride in 12 days. It's been really cold (low 30s) and ol' Ma Nature has been messing with me, sore muscles and sprains all over more than any other place. The Feds are cracking down on the VA so they don't want to give me any pain meds. Your government dollars at waste. They'll spend $50,000 on tests and "alternate methods" that have already been ruled out just to come back to square one. I'm old, gimme the meds so I can ride.
But I did manage 8.8 miles on the Sirrus @13mph, mostly sunny but still cold.

18 miles today from home to Zoo Indy near downtown to meet up with a Central Indiana Bicycling Association ride (and then back home). The outgoing Mayor Ballard met up with us to proclaim today and tomorrow as CIBA Days in honor of CIBA's 50 years of bike advocacy. The Mayor has spearheaded much progress in bike infrastructure during his tenure.

53 miles @ 16 mph with 1532 feet. Still mild here (59 deg) overcast sky looked a lot like winter except for the temp. I had to back off on the intensity as my ceramic and metal hip is still sore 11 days after I fell on it. Being old is no picnic.

Temps are still in the mid 80s today but the winds are another story. Weather Channel is calling them 8-10 mph winds but they were certainly much stronger than that. Got in a decent 37 mile solo ride - winds and all.

13.8 miles on a shortened ride on the Roubaix. Was gunna ride to the VA (yes, appt. on a Sunday) but narrow streets, no bike lane. I drove.

Last day here was Friday, 26.4 miles. Saturday and today are washouts, just a steady rain, nothing coming down like a frog strangler, so far. Temps have steadily crept downwards, though. Should be nice riding this week, if the rains will pass on.

How do you like that trail? We have a place in NW Pasco but haven't spent much time there (typical is just a week a year or so). I was thinking of buying a bike to keep there and it would be easy to head down SR 52 to the trail, then I was thinking head south and loop through Starkey and back. Driving the toll road I don't see that many users on the trail (at least during the week). 52 used to be kind of rural but it has grown like crazy around there. But there is a shoulder that I think they might be promoting as a bike route once you get a little bit east from the coast/19.

it's a nice well maintained trail that's only crowded on Saturday mornings. Head north of 52 past County Line Rd and it gets "hilly" - for Florida.

15 mile tandem ride with my favorite stoker. Feels as if cycling season is over but we'll continue to ride as much as possible. (It's never really over, is it?)

We did not take the tandem out today but I did manage to ride around the block a few times on this, a '72 Motobecane Le Champion. It has been an agonizingly slow rebuild. Unfortunately the original owner painted it Motobecane's black/red color scheme. But this bike has mostly original parts, a few as-original replacements, and the original shop invoice. It rides nicely.

It is not ready for prime time yet though.

Have you ever ridden in Flatwoods? Suncoast Trail is a nice place to ride but there isn't much shade for the majority of the trail, very few places on the trail to get water and not much in the way of restrooms. I do like riding from Anderson Snow to 98 and back and also like riding with my wife from SR 54 to SR 52 going through Starkey Park.

At decision time for my bike commute, it was just drizzling a little. By the time I got dressed and out the door it was dumping buckets, but I was committed.

After such a long drought, I could feel the earth re-invigorating itself.

But my socks are still soggy.

Finally stopped raining early this morning, and it had dried out, pretty much by noon. I got in another 26 + miles, the NNW winds made it a bit more challenging, but nothing severe, at all.

Scott,I imagine you guys are thankful for the rainfall, if it doesn't come to the mudslides that seem to follow the severe droughts and fires. It is always a funny feeling to dress out, and just as you start, the rain begins, it is more than I can bare to pitch it and not ride, it is too valuable to give up.

I've never tried Flatwoods but I've heard its nice but subject to flooding during long rain storms. I do wish the counties along the SC trail would put in some permanent bathrooms and the Starkey Park extension is nice and loaded with wildlife!

25 miles of none, then some, then none, then some, then none, then some rain. Will spend more time cleaning the bike than I did riding it.

Flooding only happens after several straight days of heavy rains and only in two small areas. However, it's still very usable even when those two areas are flooded.

Had a retiree luncheon this morning at 10:30 and decided not to ride but my buddy, Lou, called and said he was going out for a quick ride before he went to work. I met him at the park and we did a quick 24 miles. Got there just as it stopped raining and left just as started back up. Perfect timing!

10 miles. First ride this month. Hope it is not the last (55F today) , but it was mighty chilly as the sun set and the natural cooling effect of the woods made me feel cooler.
