Those drillium brake levers go well with my drillium chain ring

Speaking of well-ridden classics, this Raleigh is quintessential. Is that a toe-strap I see holding your bundle of necessaries under the saddle?

Only 9.85 miles on Saturday before suffering a catastrophic failure of the rear hub while climbing a hill.
A section of the hub flange broke off allowing 3 DS spokes to no longer function in the wheel.
The wheel tacoed so badly that it wouldn't roll............. Had to call for a ride. Bummer

Indeed it is.

48 miles with two of my riding buddies. Haven't ridden with one of them in a long time so it was nice to get to do some nice miles with him and catch up on things. The best part of the today's ride is that there was no rain threatening the ride. Nice and sunny but extremely humid.

A shortened 15 miles today on the Roubaix. Kinda nasty out, intermittent clouds and lotza wind. Jacket and full fingered gloves. I've put the Sirrus (flat bar hybrid) up for sale since I don't ride it anymore.

54 miles this morning, averaging 12 mph. My first half century.

53 miles, 15.8 mph average, fixed gear, not very hilly 1200' of elevation gain.

38 miles Sunday night, between a group ride and the ride to and from there and back home. Good times. Just the usual 12 mph average, no matter how much or little energy I expend.

a quick 10 miles before the bad weather came in, got home changed and all hell broke loose, major lightning and rain storm.
pretty tired of rain down here

21.3 miles on the Tarmac SL3. Long pants, long sleeved shirt, jacket, fuzzy warm gloves. 53° at 8:30AM. Supposed to be in the mid 80s tomorrow, back to shorts and sleeve covers.

Hardwood Creek Trail

Only 20 miles today on the Hardwood Creek Trail out of Hugo, MN. But they were Quality miles on my Raleigh DL-1. I still can't believe a bike that heavy can ride so well.

Here it is at the trailhead:

A little ways down the trail here - the weather was perfect this morning!

Did a little poking around in Forest Lake:

I love to look for the older buildings so often hidden by modern construction along the main streets. This place was, for lack of a better term, awesome!

This was an excellent long weekend for riding. Too bad I've got to go back to the grind tomorrow...

Solo Labor Day ride on the Old Gentleman to and around Downtown Fort Worth. 30 miles of increasingly HOT riding. Had a blowout at mile 2; the tires were a little soft and I think when I pumped up the front the tire came off the bead. VERY loud bang. My CO2 cartridge nozzle was busted so I actually used the ancient frame pump. It got the tire pumped up enough to walk the bike over to an oil change place and they let me use their air hose.

This fountain commemorates one of Fort Worth's nicknames of "Panther City." (It comes from a story told of a lawyer that came from Dallas and said Fort Worth was such a sleepy little town that a panther slept on Main Street. The locals adopted the intended snub with pride as a new name for the city.)

I had a really good 38 mile workout with my buddy Frank this morning. Got in with some groups that passed us and asked us to join them so that helped with the workout.

Set out for a 30 mile ride this morning since it was overcast and cool. Had to cut it short to 12. Slid on a patch of blackened gravel on a newly blacktopped road. Didn't fall, but the two-way side-slide warped the rim. Limped home slowly. The LBS straightened it well enough to get by but I'll need to replace the wheel soon.

21 miles - an awesome 67 degrees - Otay Lakes San Diego area

WOW. Glad you're okay, even if the bike isn't.

Got the video for giggles too. Didn't look as bad as it felt, at least from the helmet cam perspective. Any day you can catch yourself before hitting the ground is a good day. :thumb:

Fort Worth Cycling & Fitness on Cherry Lane straightened the rim enough to limp around on while I decide whether to replace the wheel. If it turns out to be a single wall rim I'll probably replace it. They replaced the rear wheel on my red bike back in April when something similar happened on the trails after hitting some washboard ruts on the gravel path. I'd feel more secure and confident knowing I had a solid wheel back there.

Not sure I'd have caught myself with my feet if I'd been strapped or clipped in. This stuff happens much quicker than we realize sometimes. All that stuff about unclipping, tuck and roll, duck and cover, etc... by the time the brain and body have agreed on how to react, we're already on the ground and getting ready to pick gravel out of our skin. :bike2:

Doohickie 09-06-16 12:00 PM

Actually, what size wheel do you have? I think I might have one kicking around that might work for you. The one I'm thinking of as a freehub that had a 7-speed cassette on it; I think it's 36 spokes.

Haven't got out for a ride yet today, but spent the weekend at the Midwest Tandem Rally in Ankeny Iowa. 300+ tandem teams attended. Rode over the High Trestle Bridge at dusk on Friday and then again on Sunday.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_6165.jpg

Rode about 132 miles over three days, mostly on Sat/Sun.
Got in a 12 mile ride last night after getting home.

Ronno6 09-06-16 12:46 PM

23.7 miles with my normal riding buddy today at a better pace.
At times I found myself saying (to myself) "I'm starting to feel a bit back to normal,"
until my legs or CV system said "You're not there just yet,Bubby."

Put a tried and (still) trued pair of Velocity Aero wheels on the old ride to replace the broken FSA RD-88's..

Weight still hanging on me,tho..........

I used to ride the converted Gandy Bridge, and many miles in Flatwoods park, even before
it became the nice path that it is today.
Also many miles thru Seffner and Thonotasassa after work.
Did a few tours of Davis Island, and countless miles in Pinellas County where I resided.
Most Pinellas roads got too crowded, and I didn't like the Trail too much..........

Greybeard712 09-06-16 01:43 PM

Bought a set of Mavic Aksium 20/20 wheels from a cycling friend ($100) that fit the black and white (w/blue trim) scheme of the '06 Tarmac SL. Looks great and rides fantastic. The bike is now restored to what I want it to be.
However, I overslept until 9AM (hate when I do that) and didn't get out until after 10AM. Every possible delay that could happen did (Murphy you SOB!). 15.1 very fast miles, but at least I got a ride in.

Hey, thanks! The original is an Araya 700c PX-45, with Shimano freehub, and 7-speed rear. It's running a 700x38 tire on the back, 700x35 on the front.

Kicking myself for selling all my tools years ago. Didn't think I'd need 'em again. I'll probably hang onto the original hub and eventually try rebuilding a wheel.

16.8 miles this morning with the social group. A little quicker than we have been going.
One member is a bit older and hasn't ridden much recently.
We're getting him back into shape.....
