Rain coming up tonite and tomorrow but was dry today so rode to work for 21 miles.

My birthday, so I did a short ride near Ouray, Colorado, on the route of the old Denver & Rio Grande narrow gauge that was torn up in the early 1950's. This is halfway between Ridgway and the Ridgway State Park:

Cat wouldn't let me sleep late. Empty food dish blues. So I rode 18 miles to wake up. Beautiful cool sunny morning. Good start to the day.

A very nasty storm is headed our way later today but before the storm Mother Nature sent us some very nasty wind. 30 mph at 8:00 AM predicted to reach over 40 mph by noon. They did. Since the rain wasn't suppose to get here until around 2:00 PM, I decided to go for a ride and tough out the wind. It was way too windy for my road bike so I opted to do a solo ride on the wife's trike since it wouldn't get tossed all over the place like a two wheeler would. It wasn't an easy task. On my second lap, I got to the cut off for the west parking lot, which is 4 miles out and back, and opted not to take it because the winds were getting stronger and the skies getting darker. Ended up with 36, hard fought miles. It was so bad out there that Amanda Coker even called it quits at about the same time I did. And that's very unusual for her to end a ride under 200 miles.

24.1 miles (38.8k), sunny, but a strong wind (20mph) came up near the end of the ride. Probably nothing like Florida tho.

Another day of 30+ gusts. Didn't get into the 40 mph range as it did yesterday and there is no nasty storm waiting for us today. Today's wind was from the west, so it wasn't all side and crosswinds like we have when they come from the north or south. At least we had some tailwind today. Rode the first 25 mile lap with my buddy Frank C, and the second 28 miles with my buddy Frank D. Turned out to be a pretty darn good 53 mile ride, just not a very fast one.

Ha! I don't like riding in a 10mph wind (Wind Wimp) so I guess I won't be traveling the 2600 miles to Florida anytime soon Wouldn't that be a helluva bike trip?

24.5 miles (39.4k) but the temps dropped overnight so it was kinda chilly. Arm sleeves weren't quite enough. Going on a vertical ride to Verdi (Calif border) Sat, s/b warmer.

10.89 miles doing litter pickup on my local roads.

Went out after a huge rain, and got in all those miles of road (lots of ride, stop, park bike, pick up litter, put in bags on back rack, back on bike, continue down the road, repeat, repeat, repeat for 3 full grocery bags full of litter) before the next onslaught of thunderstorms. Half the roads were gravel, the rest was paved, so was riding the ebike crosstrail. Elected to go down the gravel road first, and boy was I glad I did. . I was only moving along at about 4 mph (so I could look at both sides of the road for litter) and the road was rough (gravel, so duh), and about a mile down I realized I was hearing some rattling in the front end that was never there before. Finally started to stare down at my front wheel while I rode. It was then I noticed with absolute horror...that one of my front wheel's quick release was vibrating. I got off and found that quick release was completely loose and working itself looser.

How the heck that ever happened completely stunned me as I NEVER take the front wheel off, no one but me ever touches my bike(s), and I have never seen either front wheel on my bikes loose, ever. Just did a 28 mile ride last weekend and the bike seemed just fine. Guess I'm going to have to look through the forums to find out if this can be a thing that I need to watch out for. Same thing happened to one of our group at the start of the DC ride - she was having trouble with her front brakes and I noticed her wheel seemed to wobble a bit. Sure enough, her quick releases were loose, yet she claimed she never took her front wheel off for anything. She was REALLY glad I spotted her wheel wobble.

Anyway, I tightened both releases really tight, and then spent the next 9 miles watching with one eye that quick release to make sure it stayed tight. Despite my worry, the rest of the ride was really nice - had lots of friendly drivers wave hello, and two actually stopped to make sure I was OK when they saw me off my bike on the side of the road. From those two I got huge smiles and a big "Thank You!" for cleaning the sides of the road. We are in a beautiful country area with gorgeous routes to ride, and gets lots of cyclists during the weekend. It is nice to ride/drive pristine roads with zero litter.

I hope that all the motorists who passed me and saw a friendly, smiling cyclist doing a clean-up along the roads will translate to themselves being more generous and giving towards other cyclists on the road.

27 miles on a dry but very windy afternoon. Less wind would have made for a perfect ride.

We had severe weather yesterday, so the bike lanes and trails were filled with debris. But we need the rain, as we're still in drought conditions.

Being back on the Trek after riding the Roubaix last Saturday, there are clearly a few differences. The Trek sits a bit lower and is a tad more stable. Disk brakes are a major step up (Roubaix), as is Future Shock. And I didn't realize how much I missed the Di2 (Trek).

Intended to rest all Thursday but felt like I needed to get my blood circulating and legs stretched. Just 11 miles and felt sluggish the whole way, but still averaged nearly 13 mph. Last year at this time, feeling the same way, I'd have been struggling to ride 10-11 mph.

I guess Greg Lemond was right. It doesn't get easier. We just get faster.

None of my roadie buddies were riding today so I set out to do a nice solo ride since the weather here was really nice for a change. I was getting ready to head out and my friend, Marcel, shows up. He's a trike rider. Since the weather was so nice, I put the road bike back in the van, brought out the wife's trike and did a very, very nice 40 mile ride with Marcel.

Short(er) 25 miles in unseasonably dry Florida sunshine. It's going to be nice all weekend. Tomorrow going on the club ride (45 miles), and depending how I feel, I may ride one way on Sunday to Cedar Key, which is a tad under 60 miles. My wife and I are going kayaking there with a work colleague and his wife.

72 Miles today, my first metric century+ this year. Felt tired starting out, but it never got better. Was going to ride a mile for every year of my upcoming birthday, over shot it by 5 miles. I enjoyed the ride much more last two times I did it, At least it wasn't 90+° like last time.

About 40 miles Friday night, between local Critical Mass and ride to and from. Phone battery died so I'm guesstimating but it's usually about 40-45 miles. Hottest day so far this year with strong wind out of the south but we took it pretty easy so it was pleasant.

The 43 mile club ride was great through southern Alachua and Marion Counties. We began our loop in the cute town of Micanopy. Nice horse country roads and gorgeous dry weather. One of the fellas went down because he flatted out on a turn, luckily no injuries.....

Another great cycling day in Florida, thanks to the cold front passing through. Met with 11 other riders of the Coast 2 Coast group and did our annual Memorial Day Weekend Ride. Started from Citrus Park to the Courtney Campbell Causeway, across the bay to Safety Harbor and back to Citrus Park via Oldsmar for a total of 41 miles. It's one of my favorite rides of the year.

Rode with my bike buddy Bill (he'll be 80 in July-has a new Roubaix E-Tap) to Verdi. Killer hill which usually means high speed on the return trip. But we encountered a really strong unusual head wind. Web site said 7mph max today, that head wind was more like 18mph. Max speed (pedaling) downhill was 29mph into that wind. 21 miles (33.8k)

Back to the park today. A gorgeous day means lots of people along the loop but we still found a few places that we could crank it up. A really nice 40 mile ride today with some cool morning temperatures and a touch of fog.

25.4 miles (40.9k)—coolish morning, ideal for riding. The bike path is finally un-flooded, rode it twice.
