I broke a spoke a few weeks ago and rather than limp home, I called for a ride. That was the first time for me. I didn't know I was supposed to be ashamed, but it if helps, I feel bad about it now.

Once. Hope it does not happen again.. i didn't see a field of glass in time on the horizon.. When I did , there was so much traffic , I was forced to ride into the field of sharp debris.. Both tires were so well trashed, riding was out of the question..

Not yet. I would if I had a severe crash or a major mechanical issue. I hope to never quit due to fatigue.
About 20 years ago, I crashed early in a 75 mi ride. The road was wet. Railroad tracks intersected at an angle. Runners were taking up too much of the lane to croiss the tracks perpendicular; so, my bike slid on the wet rails. I had significant road rash, but I finished the ride.

I have broken spokes but was fortunate to finish the ride. The last broken spoke occurred on a new wheel with 24 spokes. I expected the wheel to fail, but I made the 16 mi return without problems. I wasn't worried about destroying the wheel because I would have requested a new one from the warranty.

As long as the bike is ridable and I'm able to ride I won't call for a ride. I have only done that once when I broke a spoke. Even with the brakes released the wheel rubbed to much to ride it. If I had a tool to remove the pad I could have made it. The way it is now my wife wouldn't be home to call so I'd be walking.
