2011....So far, so good!
We moved one step closer to 'Official Empty Nesters' on the 30th of December. Though the girls are all gone, there is still one Bachelor's dergee to be presented in May of this year. After that, we will be officially on the next leg of our adventure through life!
Saturday morning's commute home, and Saturday evening's commute to work were in glorious 50 degree weather, and even though it's gotten cold out again the roads are in good shape.
I had the 50+'ers favorite medical procedure this morning, yep, my first colonoscopy. Though as a 59 1/2 year old I was nine years overdue, I recieved a clean bill of health!!
Three for three....a great start on a brand new year!!

Congrats on the passing grade on your test. I had my first one last year, but I was only 6 years overdue.

Hey, Cranky. We were halfway to an empty nest. Our daughter went off to college, then got married. Our son is still home, but is two years away from graduating and moving out. Then my daughter and her husband relocated to our area and decided to live with us while they save money for a new place. We've gone from two kids at home, to one, and now up to three (plus my daughter's little dog who barks and pees in the house.) Parenthood.

My riding year didn't start off that smoothly. I had a flat on my way to work yesterday morning. There's nothing more fun than changing a flat on a January morning in the darkness.
But at least I didn't have a colonoscopy.....LOL. Glad yours went well.

Not too concerned about Grad school costs.....
Three daughters here and they've all gone through private schools from pre-school all the way through High school. It cost us a pretty penny but the self discipline they learned and the education they received were worth the cost. We chose this education route because our public schools are not quite up to par though our public school system does take great pride in it's 45% high school graduation rate.
All three have gone on to college, working their way through along with some assistance from us and with the understanding that once they had earned their Bachelors degree's they would be financially responsible for their own futures. One has graduated from R.I.T. with Highest Honors and is now a Model Design Engineer for a major aerospace company, one will graduate from M.S.O.E. in May and has a letter of intent from an Arcitechural firm in Chicago, and the third has graduated with Highest Honors from SUNY Albany.
The Albany grad is currently enrolled at Pratt as a Graduate Student.
All three are better prepared to survive in this world than I ever dreamt of being. Our job is done, financially. Now we just survive and enjoy and offer advice if asked.

Not sure about studying for that test, but I know it's one test you definitely don't want to cram for!
(Thanks, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress...)

Well, I didn't have a colonoscopy for new year's, but my boss gave me a new bike commute. Instead of a 9.5 mile commute, it's now 9.5' and I can set my own hours.

Cranky,
I agree with you 100% on the private schools. We started both children on K3 in our diocese' day school. Both went to upper level magnet schools for HS (daughter earned 1-1/2 years college in an IB high school, son graduated with high honors form the super technical high school, both rated as A schools by the state.
My daughter went to Smith College for her undergraduate degree and our son is at Baptist College of Florida studying for the ministry theough his church. Both good colleges and demanding a lot of hard study and work. The Episcopal Day School and their strict standards paid off handsomely. Our son qualified for a top end Florida state college scholarship which B.C.F. qualifies for. We saved and scrimped but it was worth the extra work and helping them with school studies was a great bonding experience for all of us. My wife and I were teachers in the early 80's. I am an engineer now.
Your girls sound like they have good parents and a true work ethic. You and the missus did a fine job, it seems. Well done Cranky and Mrs. Cranky!
Bill
