This must be the place.
I'm old now. (That's enough on that topic)
There are too many places in this crazy modern world where I don't fit in, though I realy don't have a great desire to so it's O.K.
I can still balance a bicycle however so I guess this could be a place for me to hang out some, if ya'll don't mind too much.
What kind of bicycles do old(er) folks ride anyways?

The wife and I ride, "road hybrids", I ride a 2012 Jamis Coda Sport and she rides a couple of different KHS, Vitamin A and B series machines. We've got our main bikes set up with the "Euro Trekking" style bars and LOVE them. Her Vitamin A we kept the "straight bars", added bar ends, so she can use it for, "commuting" and a bit of "hardpacked dirt path riding" on some of the local trails here in Colorado Springs. I'm looking for a "utility/back up" machine come Spring 2012, might just get a KHS Vitamin A for me too but I'm open, I'll be keeping the "straight bars" so I too can do a bit of "dirt"! ENJOY and Welcome to 50+!

Any kind that makes you want to ride... Be it bent, road, mtb or cruiser....
My main bikes tend to be race orientated road bikes but this time of year I ride my MTB of road a lot...

You must be about 90. I am 72, and not old at all.

I have 2 "road" bikes, a recumbent, a mtn bike, a vintage road bike, a trainer in the basement - older mtn bike.
Lately I have mostly been riding the mtn bike - it does better on ice on the trail.
Ride whatever gets you out there!!
Welcome.

'OLD' is a state of mind!
Turning 79 tomorrow and pedaled 5,500+ miles so far this year.
I ride a custom carbon fiber Zona single drop bar road bike; also share the ride with my wife Kay on our custom c/f Zona tandem that currently is just about 'broken in' with 33,000+ miles on the odometer.
She is only 76 and has ridden over 230,000 miles with me on our tandem bikes since 1975.
OLD? N-a-a-a-h, ask someone older than us!
Pedal on TWOgether!

Welcome to the group!
I'll soon be 69 and don't consider myself old. I have 3 bikes to cover all my riding. A Trek Madone road bike, Trek 520 touring bike and Trek 4300 mountain bike....yes, I like Trek
The local bike shop that sells them also has the best service in the area.

You'll have to define "old". I'm 67 and I'm not old.

What kind of bikes do I ride. You'll find them below in my signature. They're both awesome bikes.

I have a Pacific Reach, which is my main transportation (I don't own a car). 20-inch wheels, wonderful suspension, built-in rack for my panniers, 9 speeds, just the right size for carrying into the train. I love it, and when I indulge in n+1 it will certainly be another folder or mini-velo.
I also have a basic full-suspension mountain bike (Specialized Myka Expert). It's nice for rain because of the disc brakes, and it's just so much fun to ride that I often ride it on the street as well as on trails. I don't have the skills to ride anything gnarly though!
PS...At 56, I'm still a neophyte here.

If you are old enough to collect Old Age Security, you are old. Sorry, just reality checking in here.
Now, about two hours after a hilly century or a double, I look old. A day after, I feel old. Fortunately, that goes away. Just not as fast as it used to.
I have a Ti road bike, two CF road bikes, one vintage steel road bike, one Aluminum/CF Cross bike and a CF Mountain bike.
Welcome to BF.

I was thinking about being old today while doing 27 miles on a warm, sunny day in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. At the end of this year, I am younger than I was at the end of last year. Cycling does that kind of thing to you.

Welcome to the group. I'm a relative youngster here at 58, and unless you are MUCH older than that, you are not old. I have too many bikes and styles to list here, and the list keeps on growing somehow.
One of the things you'll get to read a lot about here is N+1.

I may as well chime in too. I have two listed below and at 71 I have to admit sometimes I do feel old. Were it not for an ongoing struggle with getting my thyroid dosage right I have been blessed with great health and lots of miles. This is my worst year ever as far as miles goes but I hope to make up for it next year. Welcome and God bless.

I'm a sprightly 53, who gets dropped in the hills and on the flats by my 62-69 year old buddies (and folks accuse me of sandbagging by riding with the more experienced guys!). I plan to be riding my a$$ off and getting to where I can drop thirty-somethings like my more experienced buddies. Nobody in that group is old!

Welcome. You'll fit in just fine here. I'm a youngster here at 51, but my lower back is about 90.
Bikes? Glad you asked! My daily commuter is a modified '70's Schwinn Continental - it's now a 3-speed with northroads bars. My randonneuring bike is a RANS V-Rex recumbent.
Other bikes include a Specialized Hardrock, a Santana Arriva tandem, a '60's Schwinn Typhoon 2-speed kickback, a Trek 560 road bike, and a couple frankenbikes. My Sun flat-top unicycle is not technically a bike, but it has pedals and a wheel, and hangs around with my bikes. I think there's one or two more out there but I'm a but too lazy to go check right now.
Important things to remember are pie and N+1.

Dis is the place.
Some of us older (61) persons ride recumbent bikes. Many don't.

64 here, CF road bike, Aluminum road bike, Aluminum Hybrid, Steel MTB, Folder Trike. Still looking for N+1. I do about 4 centuries a year sometimes five. I have done 2 road races so far and so far was an alternate rider and crew in the furnace creek 508. All things I couldn't do back the last time I was into cycling. Do I feel old? There are days but all in all I am still on the right side of the grass and looking forward to 6 to 8k next year. I hope to beat my road race time by a few minutes this year and maybe do two extra Centuries. If you love riding half as much as I do now you will love it here.

Welcome. I've only been on BF a few weeks myself. Turned 50 this year. I mostly ride a 2000 Bianchi Veloce road bike.

Also have an 80's vintage Schwinn Prologue and a Trek 900 MTB for utility and toting my camera gear. There's also a Rans Tailwind Recumbent in the garage that was bought for my wife, but she's now scared to ride it.

Need to take some pics of the Prologue...

Doesn't matter how old you are before joining this forum--Providing you are 50+or very near it.
However-
What Pie do you eat?
What bike do you ride?
When do you have the Colonoscopy Scheduled?
And most important--Where are the pics of the bike.
Welcome by the way.

Welcome to the 50+, which does not mean "old." I'm 65, recently retired and ride an aluminum frame road bike and an aluminum hybrid. I have ridden over 5,000 miles between the two bikes since July of last year. One of the bike shops near me just started carrying Colnago bikes and since then, I haven't been able to stay out of their shop. Those bikes are like a magnet. It looks like there is going to be an new road bike in the house in the near future.
If you don't have a bike yet, find one that you like that fits you. The brand doesn't matter as long as it's of good quality. Then get on it and ride it into the ground. Have fun!
