Matt Groening's other comic is always good: Life in Hell. Predates Bart and his family.

Bikes: Diamondback Clarity II frame homebuilt.

50+ers would understand going through childhood with the nickname Oop!

Comics from my youth, that I looked forward to:

-Terry and the Pirates.
-Dick Tracy. During the 60s, they had the Magnetic Space Coupes, lasers, and all sorts of cool stuff. Oh yeah, good bad guys too.
-Dondi.
-Prince Valiant. Still published, but not the same.
-Gasoline Alley. One of only two strips I can think of, where the characters aged and eventually died. The other is "For better or worse".
-Peanuts, back when they had "Pig Pen". (can't have Pig Pen now, thanks to the thought police)

These were slightly before my time, but as a kid I caught the tail end of them.

Our Boarding House with Major Hoople

That seemed to be replaced occasionally by Out Our Way or There Ought To Be A Law

Many of the comic strips and characters mentioned here were never in our news paper. My all time favorite is definitely The Far Side.

If your paper has censored Doonesbury this week, Yahoo! is carrying it.

Did anyone take French in High School and get introduced to Asterix and Obelix?

I fell in love. One of the best strips ever, but they were only in books. But they gave you such a great picture of what life was like back then.

One of my favorites was Dagwood, In one he is looking over an item he had just bought and says to Blondie,"You don't see this very often"
Blondie responds,"Whats that?"
Dagwood shows her, the tag says, Made in the USA
