I have used that quote many times however having read Churchill and Barry Goldwater I don't think they would recognize most current "conservative" commentators as conservative.
Just my 2 cents. Of course as an old style conservative I will defend your right to disagree with me and not call you names if you do so.

No, they wouldn't. Goldwater, who was an idiot, would have thought them liberal. Churchill, who for all his many faults was a compassionate man, would have been incredulous at their imbecility.
