Just a thought: people often have feet that are a half size different. Could your left shoe be too tight?
... But it may be some sort of circulation issue...

But, please be careful. Those temperatures are serious business and can do some serious harm....

Bikes: Lectric Xpedition.

On a positive note, I bought my daughter her first road bike, a cute little Lexa for my cute little girl.

This was at the end of her first ride, 4.2 miles, 187 feet of climbing.

The yellow tape was her idea.

Oh, it was 32F, but with the wind chill it felt far worse than that. She's thawing out now, and has expressed a strange desire for Mexican food and beer

But we could have picked a nicer day.

Bikes: I've lost my mind!

Been working on my bikes lately, I needed some bar tape this afternoon. It's about 32 here, with snow falling. On the way back from the bike shop, I saw a couple about my age (50's), all bundled up and out for a ride in the snow. Made me feel a bit better.

Miss Kenton, the groundhog says spring is right around the corner. Just close your eyes and think of lilacs, wild roses, warm sun on your shoulder, the smell of a fresh spring rain, and it will soon be here.

I want to prepare my body for long charity rides on the bike rather than in my basement.

I want to clean out my gardens, prune my perennials, and plant some annuals.

I want to watch the birds in my garden while drinking my morning coffee outdoors in my screen house.

I want to post on this forum about an interesting ride I’ve just had.

Okay, my rant is over. Anybody else dreaming of nice weather?
Well, Miss Kenton, looks like you got the snow that we were expecting. When I got up this morning and checked the radar, I saw the line of snow was to the east of us and looked like it would miss us altogether.

So, went for a ride. Had lunch at the Lambertville Station. (No pie - but chili, beer, ice cream and coffee.) Got 43 miles with 2400 ft of climb, but only averaged 8.8 mph. Sure would like the weather to get warmer so my average speed would go up!

Nemo gave us 5.5 inches. Spent Saturday after Nemo with the snow blower and Sunday riding.

Keep the pedals turning so you'll be ready for the long rides when spring arrives!

Oh yes, Ms. K!!! Thinking of a brevet I've wanted to start working toward, on-road bike-fit testing, and do those changes I did make a difference? - and most of what you said, too!

I saw some snow a couple of weeks ago. It was in the higher mountains 60 mi or so away. Sympathize with you. I love the snow. For about 2 hours. Then I'm ready to get warm.

Good thoughts, NOS. I'll be happy when daylight savings time arrives and there is no black ice on Spruce Street. I get so nervous watching the mass of cyclists squeezing through the bike lane heading towards South St. during commuting hours.
I saw one student in Houston Hall yesterday wearing shorts, a sleeveless t-shirt and flip flops. It was 57 degrees outside. I suppose he was thinking positively!

I have a Lexa. I won it in a raffle a few years ago. I really like it; it's a good bike, but I already have a 1.5 so I'm thinking of pulling a N-1 +1 and trading it in for a Dutch type bike.

Thanks for your endorsement. To apologize for my previous winter photograph, in keeping with the spirit of this thread, here is a picture of the Boys of Summer at the Third Annual Fifty Plus Ride in Ann Arbor, MI:

Nice comeback!!
I am impressed by the photo of the man riding in the snow, much like I'm impressed by Nik Wallenda crossing Niagra Falls on a tightrope. In both cases I respect their fortitude, and in both cases I want nothing to do with it!

I do like the second photo as it reminds of yet another of my favorite sights during fair weather rides:
the cyclists' finely sculpted legs.

You all are welcome to come out to the left coast to visit. We've been riding every weekend since November. Some of the first nice Century rides are starting up in a few weeks.

This thread makes me appreciate my texas winters even more. It was 29 this am, but 64 and no wind this afternoon.

We had a hint of spring yesterday, but it's been cold and/or wet since October(for the most part). I try to get out some even in the rain, but it's definitely harder to get motivated. Two out of the last three winters, I took the down time to build up old bikes for myself.

This season's project started out with just this. It is a 1975 Peugeot PR 10(one notch down from a PX 10)

I picked up parts over the last few months, and finally got the ball rolling. This bike will be far from original, as I am using a mixed bag of parts. I'm still waiting on a couple of things, but I should have it rolling in a couple weeks. My goal for this project is to ride Cino Heroica https://www.cinorider.com/ in Montana this Summer, along with a couple of local BF members. We'll see how it goes...

Here is where I'm at now

I'm getting pretty excited because tomorrow is supposed to be sunny! 32F! Minimal wind! Dry, ice-free roads!
I've really lowered my standards, haven't I?

That's what it was SUPPOSED to be here... But, right it now it is in the beginning stages of dumping 3 or 4 inches of white stuff on us...

Today, was cold but clear. I could have gone out for a ride but I thought: "no, I'll pass today -- tomorrow will be better". Now it's turning out to be worse...
... There's gotta be moral in that story ...

Nice prose!

Have you thought of taking up skiing?

I suppose this is a bad time to mention that we had glorious weather today in SoCal?

Gee, sounds like my home town! That's the good thing about Nevada winters--the cold can be brutal at times, but we always seem to get these warm spells that make winter endurable. It's been great riding weather with highs in the 50's to low 60's, but winter returns with snow forecast for the middle of the week. Hurry up Spring!

Today the ground was any combination of wet, sandy, salty, icy, slushy, and snowy. It was windy and snowed most of the time. Around 25 miles. About 35F and dark at the last few miles.
It was perfect !!

I don't have a problem with any of that, - after all, that's about 20 degrees warmer than my ride today- and riding in the snow can be really beautiful. But if I am on trafficked roads and I get very concerned that drivers visibility can be really poor. If it's actively snowing, I want to be away from traffic, particularly if it's dark.

I was on roads with traffic most of the time. Not heavy traffic. I have lights as bright as cars on both ends, that helps. it's easier to notice my bike in the dark than in the day. I know that is not a sure thing that everyone will see me, but it helps.

I do agree less traffic is better, I took some different routes to avoid heavy traffic and a couple of bad intersections.

Yeah, the depths of winter are definitely a drag. I only picked up HALF an avocado by the side of the road on my ride today.
