Turns out that the wine is also available in box but the store I bought it at did not have any at the time. Went to another store a couple of days later and there it was in box AND CHEAPER. doh

People say "always think positive" -- I instead always think the worst because by doing so I prepare myself for the worst outcome and am always right and ready or pleasantly surprised.

I tried drinking a glass of white recently and got a headache within 15 minutes. My body hates alcohol. At 58 my body seems to hate a lot of things lately. Sad.

I hear that alcohol is a rust preventative for when one rests.

Definitely a moss inhibitor for my PNW body.

They're about an hour away by car, and I'm mostly retired, so I'll be visiting as much as they let me. Yea, baby.

Funny thing. Right now, the baby is pretty much a sack of protoplasm. They eat, sleep, poop, and cry. They can't even see you well, and don't respond that much to stimulus.

Given that, what is great about being a grandparent?

Well, I was on a bike ride when I got the text from my son-in-law that my daughter was in labor. And at the end of the ride, I started feeling like I had a cold. The day everyone went to visit, I had to beg off. It wasn't COVID, but whatever it was, I did not want to give it to the bambina or new mommy.

So we had a little Facetime meeting the next day. And let me tell you. My daughter was happier than I have ever seen her in my life. So happy she was in tears. A deep, satisfying kind of happiness.

So far, that is the best thing about being a grandparent. I'm sure that will change as the bambina gets older, but as for now, that is it ,,, and it is GREAT.

I'm just a softie for infants, babies, and toddlers. (They also bond with Grandpa if you are gentle, warm and soothing.) After that they begin to get heavy, learn the word No, and need bigger diapers. Mom often needs and appreciates more support in the early weeks, months and first couple of years.

16-20miles each way has given me a 32-40mile RT 'commute' by bike to babysit for 1/2 day for 2+years, since they relocated. Sometimes an overnight and 2 days with grandkids.

In summer I take the longer route almost every trip.

That's awesome! I love babies too. And little toddlers ... they are so very intelligent and soak up information so fast, it is fun to watch.

I'd love to ride my bike over there, but it's kinda far and there aren't a lot of safe routes for a bike. But I'll have her in a trainer as soon as she is able.

……including straightening the room where much of it was junked. Under some stuff and under the coffee table where stuff resided - I found a project my kids told me to accomplish - from the last time (years ago) when I cleared some useless accumulated old business remembrances.

First commercially available, desktop ink jet printer. Early 1980s. Sslightly ahead of HP in the market. Quiet printing, no 'wire dot matrix' hammering. I was manufacturing manager (for print head and ink supply) and the customer facing asst QA manager. We got sold to a bigger company who folded it 2 years later. Wish Texas Instruments had won the sale.



Then it was on to data storage hardware - thin film data recording heads - started as wafer manufacturing manager. An ex-IBM start-up then an overtaking competitor. The gray sign I made, not directed so much at my fab operators as the silly engineers trying to change established protocol without full authorization.


These might be finished in a shadow box. Would also have to do one from the earlier jobs at Intel.

This senior is looking for a good walking shoe. Since most of my walking will be on paved surfaces I want a shoe optimized for that purpose. Selection seems limited. Why don't shoe manufacturers make more WALKING shoes? I see running shoes, hiking shoes, basketball shoes, loafers, sandals, slippers (), flip-flops, loungers, brogues. There's more Cowboy boots than walking shoes. Most people walk more than run, hike or flip! I get loungers and loafers for the couch crowd. Sandals and flipflops for the beach crowd. I even get cowboy boots for your cows, but why no more walkers? And who would ever buy "slippers". I'm open to material and construction technology - as long as it has a good sole. Your opinion, as long as it agrees with mine, is welcome.

A couple of my favorite walkable SPD shoes (SIDI and Diadora models) were marketed in the U.S. as police shoes for bike patrolling. Wide, comfortable, stiff where it counts.

Not many SPD police shoes are still being manufactured, but the non-SPD police shoes are likely similarly built for all-day comfort.

Just did a search for "police shoes," and the first six or so examples that came up were Amazon choices. As an alternative, here's a shoe model from a business that sells equipment for police officers.

I try very muchly not to walk in my 'not optimized for walking' cycling shoes.

I'm partial to New Balance 'cause my feet seem to get fewer blisters. That said I buy Trail Runners and use them for everything, walking, hiking, cycling..

Just a note to say that being a grandpa rocks. I am utterly smitten.

A couple of months ago, we took the chance at disaster to bring her to Italy with us (daughter and son in law were going to a wedding there). I got to spend three whole nights having fun with this little nugget ... walking around Florence with her in a sling, showing her the sights. I got all kinds of smiles and kindness from the people there. And the Italians love their babies ... even the men were cooing.

Take a look at Hoka, they make lots of walking shoes, recommended by my pediatrist and the American Podiatric Medical Association and are all I now wear.

I am really happy to find this place. I pretty much quit social media, except for FB which I keep reluctantly and don't post, and LinkedIn for my consulting work.
