TimothyH I growed up in rural Arkansas. Ain’t got no stop lite, ain’t got no movie theater. I have family still there so ‘y’all’ is bred in my soul. (And was just in Atlanta April, 2017 for Masters).
I have this lust for deciduous forests and green. SoCal and much of the west is brown....desert. A dirt or gravel path thru this forest in mid September...Wow does that sound great. My wife has committed to a bicycle-oriented vacation next year. I have no idea how you’d get a bike from LA to Atlanta.
But this pic is exactly where I’d like to ride. Nothing about it (except the mosquitos!) that I don’t crave!
And thanks!

Y'all come down chuckschreiner! <-- That's southern for "you are invited to be my guest."
It is the Silver Comet Trail which runs from Atlanta into Alabama.
The deciduous forests of the east can seem exotic to those who grow up in more wide open places. On the other hand, I met someone who grew up on the prairie who felt claustrophobic in the woods.
The trees in that photo are actually timber planted on purpose by logging companies who lease the land. It isn't a particularly robust ecosystem in terms of biodiversity or productivity. Quite barren, actually, but it is nice to look at.
The bike photo was taken on the east side of the Brushy Mountain Tunnel looking away from the tunnel. If one were to turn around they would see this....

...or, at certain times of the year at a particular time of the day...

Last NYC Century
Sunday, September 8 was the 30th and last Transportation Alternatives NYC century ride. Since it was the last, I decided to ride my 1972 Raleigh Sports (what we called an English Racer when I was a kid). A couple of friends and I did the 55 mile route (and wound up with 60). Here's a photo of my bike at the Bay Ridge pier in Brooklyn, looking towards lower Manhattan (the ride started and ended in Central Park, Manhattan). The toughest hills are the bridge ramps, and on some of them I was out of the saddle to pedal, but never had to walk one (in fact, managed to use only 2nd and 3rd gear).

Rode from Manhattan to Tarrytown, took the train back home. I like to stop at the Grecian Temple with its great views of the Hudson River.
Finishing up with an iced Americano at Coffee Labs in Tarrytown, representing for the Association of Caffeinated Wheelmen.

This photo reminds me of a funny incident that occurred roughly 50 years ago. I lived in Scottsdale from 1956-64 when I went off to college. This was the time when airlines where switching from props to jets. Sky Harbor (Phoenix, Maricopa County? can't remember exactly who) didn't want to pay the extra insurance for jets. The airlines thought it was the airport's responsibility. So there was a stand off and jets were not allowed to land at Sky Harbor. One day a jet had to make an emergency landing at Sky Harbor. It was surrounded by law enforcement vehicles and not allowed to take off until the airline agreed to pay the insurance which they eventually did. Hostage taking at a different level!

The Red Waterfall along the GAP. Water burst through an abandoned coal mine. The red is caused by the iron in pyrite. The water is also very acidic and has a distinctive odor. Flows right into the Youghiogheny River.

Ventura Cove , California
Did a 36 mile ride out to the coast and back on Sunday. It was hot on Saturday so I left early and sat on the beach while having a drink of water . I headed back inland expecting the heat of the previous days , but was pleasantly surprised , only 80 or so. PERFECT! Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

Thanks! That's just the information I was looking for. I was wondering if the rack mount might hinder alignment of the center pull brakes but that doesn't appear to be an issue. And the longer bolts/spacers is a clever mod too.

Great. In my case the mounting bracket clears the straddle wire and caliper arms nicely and has no impact on centering.

Just got back from a vacation in Slovenia. I got in a short bike ride to go to from Lake Bled to a nearby gorge. It was on a cheap department-store level bike that was really claptrappy, but oy, was that fun.
Slovenia is a marvelous cycling destination. Lots of roads dedicated to bikes, an aware and courteous motorist population, and great scenery. I'll be back someday to ride it for reals.

Odawara castle, Kanagawa, Japan.
This was at the start of my 165 km ride along the Pacific coast to a seafood restaurant I've been going to for about 25 years. The castle was demolished in the 1600s when Japan was unified under the Tokugawa military government and rebuilt in the 20th century as a tourist attraction.
Seafood restaurant "Isobe". Nothing has changed inside in about 50 years...

That's a classci mistake!

(At least they were consistent, they printed the same misspelled domain name on their menus and on two signs outside the restaurant.)

This is on the road leading to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, this past weekend. On the Ohio River. Funny looking bicycle on that sign.
