My daughter came home for spring break. I have a new camera and an old old 16mm movie lens mounted on it just for fun. She, her mom and I climbed over some barbed wire fence and played photo shoot. What a blast!

This will be year 2 of running it as a organized ride. I did it for 3 years with mini mart support. Bend is great for riding road and Mt. I have another favorite ride that is a 100 mile road ride from home to East Lake at Newberry Crater just southeast of Bend. I meet my wife there with our camper. Switched out the Mt bike the next day and rode 50 miles home on single track. The picture is looking south from the rim trail open to hiking, and bikes.
The trail follows the skyline rim from the peak at 8000'
BTW, here is a look at what the pigtails out near Mt. Rushmore look like. This is in the day where they'd bore through a mountain and build something like this just to make it entertaining ... and it was!

No bike riding for an entire week! It was a family Disneyland trip with the grandkids.
The photos were only added to show proof of why I have not ridden for an entire week….honest
My oldest granddaughter somehow turned into Merida from the toon Brave.
Then she suffered a horrible archery accident back in the hotel room.
My youngest grandkid fit right into Toon Town
I home now, it will be in the mid to high 60’s, I can’t wait for my ride in a couple of hours.

Yup. The ride across South Dakota was mind-numbingly flat in a lot of places. But not without it's charms.
Like the town of Interior, right at the edge of the Badlands. Our accommodations for the night were to be at a KOA about 3 miles up the road. But since it was a very hot day and I like to chat up the locals, my friend and I took a detour before arriving in camp to do some elbow exercises at the local saloon. This one ... the Wagon Wheel ... looked promising.
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure this was the ONLY saloon in town. Anyway, so we walk in, sit down, and have a couple cold ones. The bartender is a friendly guy and we have a nice chat about whatever seemed appropriate. We were there about an hour when he eyes me over and asks:

Kind of an odd question. I answer with another."Who or what is Radar?"
<to be continued>"Whaaal ... Radar's my pet steer."
Steer? Surely I heard wrong. I asked for clarification."You want me to ride a real bull?"
"Waaaal ... Radar ain't no bull, he's a steer. Whassa matter ... Dontcha know the difference between a bull and a steer?"
I felt embarrassed to say it, but ..."Would it surprise you if I said I didn't? Remember, I'm from Southern California. We don't have a lot of either roaming around."
"Waaaal, a steer ain't got no balls."
I finally got the picture."Waaaal, a steer ain't got no balls."
"Guess that makes them a trifle more docile, doesn't it?"
"Sure does. So whaddya say ... wanna ride Radar?"
Now remember that I already had a couple of drinks under my belt. And I am someone who likes to sample local color as much as possible. And if it's a docile little steer, how bad could it be? I looked at Cynthia. She shook her head as if to say "Don't do it." That settled it. I set my beer down and got off my barstool."Sure does. So whaddya say ... wanna ride Radar?"
"Yea, sure. Let's go ride him. Where is he? Out back?"
"Waaaal, you don't need to go anywhere ... I'll bring him in here."
Now I really thought I was hearing things. I've seen a lot of things, but I've never seen a steer inside a bar before. So what's the joke? Is it some kind of midget steer? He assured me that all was OK, so I sat down and waited for him to return."Waaaal, you don't need to go anywhere ... I'll bring him in here."
And here was Radar. A flippin HUGE steer, led by a rope and complete with longhorns. They looked like they belonged on an Eldorado in a Texas retirement home. They were so wide and the doorway so narrow, Radar had to wag his head sideways to get through. The amazing thing was that no one else in the bar seemed to pay him no mind. And he was absolutely docile. No snorting and pawing ... he just clop-clopped over to the bar and waited.
Radar's shoulders were at face-level, so I wondered how the heck I was going to climb up on him. I needn't have worried. My benefactor fetched a step-ladder of suitable size. I put my left foot in the stirrup, and swung my other leg over. And here its ... proof that I rode Radar at the Wagon Wheel Bar in Interior South Dakota:
Now of course, the reason for offering me this ride was as American as a souvenir T-shirt ... as a matter of fact, it was a souvenir T-shirt ... for the paltry sum of $15, which I gladly paid. I've still got it.
And of course, when we finally made our way back to the KOA, every cyclist on the tour was anxious to visit the Wagon Wheel and ride Radar. And we all did that, after having the best friend chicken I've ever had at a quiet little restaurant ran by some Native American sisters. OMG ... you know food is good when you still remember it years later.
So there you go ... oodles of charm in places where you least expect to find it ... with my friends at the Wagon Wheel.

Interior, SD is a seriously interesting place ... as was our lunch stop the same day ... Scenic, South Dakota (which was anything but).
The entire town was for sale recently ... and sold for $800K:

Great story Biker plus you have the picture to prove it. What's with the outside net at roof level to the right of the Wagon Wheel? Catching aliens that "drop in" from time to time????
I bet Radar would have treated you a little differently had he had a flashback and remembered how it felt to become a steer.........

Speaking of some unexpected spots. I was driving back from Tucson to NC and had been on the road for hours..........starving for something to eat but in that part of the world it's just you and sagebrush. I think this is in Monahans, Texas but some of the best beef brisket I've ever eaten. The green beans and mac & cheese weren't too bad either. My trusty bike mobile got in the picture as well. People thought I was crazy driving it back and forth across the US with 500,000 miles on it but my plan was to just leave it wherever it decided to lay down. I had that van so loaded with my daughters stuff I had to use the side mirrors for the trip out. Amazing vehicle.

Georgia Rides To the Capitol advocacy ride was Tuesday. Freakish weather with temps in the 30s and snow flurries on a late March day in Georgia 
A few hundred of us rode in from various locations to the state capitol bldg to show our support for safer cycling in the state.
Much smaller crowd than in past years, but that's because of the weather, not a lack of enthusiasm.

A few shots from today's ride in the NC mountains.
A short waterfall right next to the road.
Looking North. Very clear at around noon. Very steep 4.5 mile climb just to get to here. See the shadow of the cloud on the ground?
A little different view. Later in day I was down in the valley and climbing back up the mountains you see in the distance.
