during the bike ride yesterday evening, I stopped to get a shot of a pumpkin field. The Peoria area grows the majority of the nation's pumpkin crop, but it's still a tiny crop when compared to corn and soybeans. Kind of interesting, considering how such a large pumpkin can be mostly hidden by the leaves.

Gentlemen...
Some really interesting rides and nice settings but I feel the need to once again remind riders to always photograph the bike with the drive side facing the camera.
Please point the bike --> this way.
Thank you. That is all.

Haven't seen any fields with the vines gone yet. I'll probably turn around and see them everywhere tomorrow!
edit: maybe the pumpkins that I saw aren't for eating... maybe for looking at?? They seemed much more colorful than the usual pie filling pumpkins.

Photo taken at Don Edwards Wildlife Sanctuary in the South SF Bay area in CA. This part of the sanctuary was pretty much salt evaporation ponds but other parts of the park hosts a whole bunch of birds migrating south. Saw a huge flock of pelicans just hanging around and also watch a huge blue heron fishing for lunch near an inlet. Population of fowl usually picks up as winter nears. Easy place to ride with all packed gravel. My CX bike is overkill here...

You captured a very serene setting in that image, the whole scene was framed nicely, thanks for sharing!

Was reading on the Kindle during my recent cross-PA tour when I heard some chattering in the trees. Turned on the headlamp and saw I had visitors.
The second photo shows what happens when you own a campground in bear country and don't take proper precautions. Shortly before I took this, a large black bear walked out from between the dumpsters and stared at me from no more than 20' away. Estimated to be some 350+ lbs. (That brown seen on the left is a pile of scat. There was another pile about 100' from my tent.) Fortunately, he could tell I was a badass and went about his business.
