I rode 4 pie!!!!
24 miles on one of my favorite rural routes this evening after work. 79 degrees, the legs felt good, and the average speed reflected it. Best speed of the year so far.
To celebrate I stopped by the local sub shop, got a hoagy and a slice of chocolate cheesecake from the grocery store. All good!

Pie is passe'
Immediately after graduating high school I got a surveyor's helper job that even included an expense account for lunch everyday. We had pie after lunch every single day. Now, 53 years later, I tried to plan for pi day by finding a suitable cafe that still serves pie. The best I could come up with is Denny's, Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel. What's up with that?
Last September I planned a ride with another 50+ poster for pie Saturday. We rode to Edwardsville, a traditional town setting with several non-chain eateries. We had to check three different ones before we found one with pie and they only had one kind.
The obvious conclusion is that pie has become passe'. Donuts are getting harder to find too. And people ask why I'm grouchy.

Check this place out. Downtown Alton.

Also, Dukes Bakery, about a mile from the riverfront in Alton, and Clifton Terrace Inn at the top of CLifton Terrace Hill, about a half mile off the Vadalabene trail.
Just some options... My Just Desserts is our Pi day target every year.

Maybe one glorious day, I'll rise from my comfortable bed before dawn, stretch and go downstairs, make 2 large cups of my wondrous coffee using my freshly ground beans. I'll take the first cup of that fragrant coffee to the patio and look out to see the beautiful sunrise. All of a sudden, trumpets sound and a heavenly host will sing; "Glory to bicycle riders and on earth, peace, good will to pie lovers."
I will stand rooted to the spot, clench my coffee cup (not a drop of coffee spilled) and have a divine revelation. Knowledge will flood my brain and I will know, really know, what these strange people mean when they speak of PIE!
Until that happens, I'll just have to muddle along, not having the slightest inkling of what these strange people are referring to.
