Finally, I've begun to ride no-handed, not on narrow shoulders mind you, but in situations where I've got a lane without a precipice to ponder.

Granted, the Volagi has a very forgiving geometry, but I'm old and presumably fragile. Being able to zip/unzip a recalcitrant zipper, open a Clif bar, etc. is a valuable skill and it's very liberating to do so while continuing to ride.

I'm not ready to split the fog line on a busy two-lane, but even a baby step is welcome. I'll never go so far as the bozo who passed me on a MUP bridge in the opposing direction with his hands clasped firmly behind his back. Not that he didn't look steady, but while I could care less if an unseen surface defect careened him off into the poison oak, I'll be darned if I want to get hit head-on by his careening carcass.

Many of you who have ridden continuously for a number of years conquered hands-less riding in your youth, but let's hear from oldsters who have recently separated themselves from their handlebars without incident.

I can ride a unicycle, but yet until my latest bikes, I've never been comfortable riding with no hands. Not sure why.

(And I'm pretty clearly cheating on my current bikes because I can steer with my feet.)

Riding during my vacation, I was on an empty street, so I decided to really test my no-hand skills. I decided to unzip, remove, and stuff my jacket into my jersey pocket. Pulled it off with out a hitch, which surprised my wife, and myself.
Now, if I could just get the hang(no pun intended) of relieving myself whilst riding.....
