You're completely right, John. I've yet to discover the limits of my abilities. Plus, I 'm willing to attempt things that may not be feasible, meaning that the rubber, although downward, isn't necessarily in contact with anything. When searching the outer boundaries, that't where the difficulties arise.

Falling is a necessary skill but it's all about the riding. If you are cracking up somewhat regularly and your S.O. is pissed I'd say get your priorities in order.

Be careful out there!

Several years ago we were riding down a storm damaged canyon and there was a sharp turn with about a 3 foot drop into a creekbed. I stopped and there was a kid picking himself up and checking for damage to his body.
I dismounted and lowered my bike by hand, much to the amusement of the young guys. "Hey", I said, "I'm over 50 and I'm not jumping off of anything".
One of them replied "I hear you, man". I was probably older than his dad.

Never date a girl thirty years younger than you who insists she really loves you, only to dump you when you file chapter 13.

It hurts. It really hurts.

My wife thinks this post is a hoot.

No. New Yawker, Long Island to be specific. There's actually some great mt. biking here, probably 300+ miles dedicated to the sport, in over a dozen parks. The local club - CLIMB has been super pro-active at working with the assorted governments to get trails laid in. And there's hardly a rock in sight, so it' a tad safer then riding Vermont.

I bought a bike Sunday from a guy who said he was afraid of getting hurt on a bike so was selling all his stuff. He witnessed a friend get hurt pretty badly and that scared him.
I got broadsided last week by a car and realized I was being pretty careless in traffic, although in this case it wasn't my fault and didn't get hurt. Am being more cautious now.

An accident like that could do critical invisible damage to your bike. Maybe a cracked tube that influences the structural integrity of the frame. That leaves no other options.... Get a new bike.

On this forum this could easily read as:

Maybe a cracked tube [bone]that influences the structural integrity of the frame [hip joint]. That leaves no other options.... Get a new bike [hip]
