Schwinn Loop Customization

Hello. I just received my Schwinn loop from amazon about two days ago. I like it so far. I am replacing the seat with a "Planet Bike Men's A.R.S. Anatomic Relief Bicycle Saddle" in hopes that will make for a more comfortable ride. Other than that I was thinking of either changing the crankset over to a 52 tooth crankset such as "New Bicycle Fixie Fixed Gear Bike Crankset Cranks 52T Anodized Purple" off ebay. According to this guy I'd have to buy a new chain and do some modifications:

https://www.bikeforums.net/folding-bi...omization.html

Now I was wondering if installing a front deraileur on this bike would be possible at all.
Parts:
-Origin8 Alloy Cable Stop - I'm not sure where this could even be mounted to (maybe the seat post part of the frame) or is it even necessary since the barrel bolt is attached to the shifter
-Vuelta Corsa Pro Crankset 52t/42t/30t crankset
-Shimano FD-TX50 Tourney Front Derailleur (34.9-28.6-mm 3x6/7 Speed Low-Clamp) - mounted to the seat post part of the frame
-Shimano Road Shift Cable and Housing Set (Black) - to cover the cables
-Shimano RevoShift Friction 3 Speed Left Twist Shifter - mounted in the normal place

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I understand that this is probably not possible and I might just go for the 52t fixie because I almost ride in the 6th or 7th gear constantly so if i put the 52t on i feel i'd be somewhere in the middle with the ability to shift up and down to where i need it to. The added threee gears would just add a further amount of customization. Another question what if I use the 3 chainring crankshaft as a manual fixie that I would just use my fingers to move the chain?
Also would I need a longer chain if I did either of these modifications. Thanks in advance

Hey,
Triple front crankset will be an challenge. Its doable but hard to set up correctly.
Go for double crankset with mid compact[53-36]
Pay ateention to the fact that the seatpost in Loop is megaoversized, wicth means its 41mm diameter.
No Clamp on derrailer will fit there.
So for front derrailer you will need to get dahon front derrailer hanger for MU frames.
You will also need the front derrailer braze on model, to pin to front derrailer hanger.
I also would choose better components, like tiagra front derrailer braze on for front. It isnt mutch expensive and its way mutch better.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't be a fun job. I think what I decided on for right now is to just upgrade the front chainring to a 52 tooth bmx bolt on style chainring. I was having a hard time finding a bolt on style chain ring that big so I finally got that. I think I might also try to install a new rear cassette so I can have a 12 tooth gear back there for a 52-12 for maximum speed. I'm not sure how it'll work in practice, but for 13 dollars for a new cassette isn't too much for the fun of tinkering with it.

Oh yeah one more thing if I do decided to change the bike cogs out. Is there a difference between freewheel and cassette 7 speeds? Are they interchangeable? I believe it has a freewheel style on it now. the gears are 14-16-18-20-22-24-28. Only name on anything is Epoch is on the locknut

hey,
Lets start for start.
Freewhell is on classic tecnology for threaded cogs. Freehub cassete is an newer alternative where cogs dont threaded, just putted on cassete body.
You can lean more her ̣̣̣̣Shimano Cassettes & Freehubs
In short: There is no freewhell with decent quality in market for 7 speeds and 11-28 cogs.
To change cogs to smaller ones, you will most likely change the whole rear whell and buy a lot of new componets.
For now, you can change as many components as you can aford, but my two cents is not do do it.
Get used with your bike, gears, componets and stuff. Use more what you have now before starts to thinkk upgrades.
best,

The 52T chainring using a 1/8th in chain works, but you'll have to sand/file off a bit of the derailleur otherwise the chain will rub against it. Also, if you use the purple ebay crank, you'll have to be careful of the guard, which will get in the way of the smallest cog. You will need a 1/8th inch chain instead of the standard chain, although I think one package of chain is enough, I added a few more segments just to be safe.

The Schwinn Loop 7's stock hub uses a freewheel and can not use a cassette. With 52T and the stock freewheel, I found it to be pretty comfortable with a pretty wide range for both climbs and not spinning like mad on even terrain.

I would not suggest the triple in the front without a derailleur. I've done something similar and had a bad experience with it.

Thanks thats actually a lot of great information etung. I have one more question/comment. I just got my crank puller and finally took the crank off to find out the chainring is pressed together with the crank. The ring i got to use on the front is Amazon.com: Sunlite 1-Piece Chainring, 3/32, 52t. I am now thinking I will either have to bolt the new chain ring to the old chainring or find a way of grinding/cutting the crank from the old one. Any suggestions?
