Changing CrankSet Help ?

The Crankset that I have is: Shimano FCM311 28/38/48t w/Chainguard on an Raleigh CADENT FT2.

I would like to change this to an two sprocket and make the bike an 18 speed.

I would like to use SRAM X7 is possible.

Can anyone help me with the process ?

Thanks for all your help !

Scott

Sure!

1) Make sure your new crankset is designed to work with your BB.
2) Make sure your new crankset is 9 speed compatible.
3) Not sure if you will need a new front derailleur or not, but you'll likely need to adjust it if you can use your current one due to the increased size of the large chainring on the new crankset.
4) Do you ever use your 28T chainring on your current crankset? If so, you may want to change your cassette on the rear to give you more torque. If not, then it won't be a big deal. Bikeapedia didn't list the current rear cassette on your bike (ex: 11-32, 12-32, etc).
5) If you install a new crankset and new cassette, install a new chain so they all wear evenly.

What is your goal? More speed?

My Goal is to get better road gears - better speed

I do use the 28T a lot as it makes shifting easy for me.

Do you where I can get a 2 x 9 Crankset ?

Thanks for your help !

MTB or Road? You need to know which is compatible with your chain stays.
