Amazon has Dahon Speed P8 for $479
I just ordered mine.
I don't know why it's priced so low, and do hope it's accurately described.

Thanks - I was still trying to decide if the upgraded drivetrain, tires, and landing gear "readiness" on the Tangerine model (whatever it's officially called ;-), was worth the extra money over the original Speed 8. However, spotting this made my decision easy.
I did appreciate your links to the ThorUSA specs (which I had seen - but perhaps didn't fully comprehend his conventions), but my main confusion was that he refers to it as simply Speed 8, while everyone else appears to call it a D8, and Dahon themselves don't seem sure - not even showing it on this page, which as the URL implies shows all folding bikes:

Dahon has a strange way of naming and renaming the same bikes depending on the geographic location. It can really get annoying. I wanted a Dahon Curve SL (7 speed) and it's almost impossible to locate, unless I pay extortion rate pricing. Plus, it was discontinued, so the remaining bikes are becoming collectors items. Dahon are a strange company indeed. I have noticed that most Asian companies do similar though,...so I guess it's best to go with the flow. As long as companies like Dahon make a quality product, and support their customers, I'll deal with a few bouts of confusion on my part.
As for the upgraded parts, I'd say the price savings you just received make it easily possible to do an improvement or 2, and still have extra $$$ left over. Honestly, my only real gripe is the rear derailleur. Everything else is just personal taste/touches. Most D8 owner's seem to feel the same. I honestly think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
And, sorry I got a bit perturbed in your other thread. I sometimes get that way. My apologies.

The bike generally seems so well - and widely - regarded, that I'm surprised I don't see more complaints about that. As indicated, I'm not sure of the various ways that I may use the bike, so will have to wait to see, and perhaps swap things out if/when they become an issue. I've also ordered rack, fenders, carry bag (Columbia - which gets better ratings than the cheap nylon ones that last a week, if that), bottle cage, bell, and a spare tube.

Not to worry - it was just as much me, reacting badly to an unnecessary comment ;-)
