Putting a mark on the seatpost?

Anyone know a good way to mark your seatpost? Mine doesn't come with the fancy marks etched in like on some bikes.

A regular marker pen should work well on a silver or white seatpost, but the mark wouldn't be very visible on a black seatpost like mine.

Sharpie makes a silver marker. I use it on electric wires and wall warts that go to electronics so I don't mix them up. It's an effective and cheap fix

I use fingernail polish as touch up paint on bikes, thus have several colors on the shelf. Over black it might take 3 to 5 layers to be easily visible, but should be durable.

I am having trouble getting used to this new format. I wrote a response and then over-wrote it.

I use my wife's nail polish, or I scratch it with a blade (I make a line,...).

I used a black sharpie on my Bromnpton's chromed seatpost.
It stayed for a few days. Eventually; I guess the up and down
motion against the plastic sleeve rubbed it off.

Thanks for the suggestions. Just picked up a two pack of the Sharpie metallic silver pen at my local drugstore for $5. Says on the package its made to stand out and adhere on dark metal surfaces so its perfect for the job. Looks really good, has a nice bright silver metallic color. Might be a good idea to let it dry overnight in open air before putting the seat down.

use a blade to mark, it's persistent. Paint will come off.

As you may already be aware, Brompton offers a seat post insert that facilitates saddle height adjustment. See:

Yes. I know Brompton came out with the insert.
But this didn't exist yet when I bought my 2013.
After a while; I just got used to estimating the
right height.

I actually have markings on both of my Dahon folder seatposts, so I don't even need to make a mark. I did when I had my Xootr Swift and Melon Slice folders.

On a Brompton it is easy enough with a bit of patience to just put a few winds of electrical insulation tape on the bottom part of the seatpost...so when you pull it up the tape stops it at the correct height...Just takes a few tries to get the height just right..then it is fine for years...Watch the video of how to insert the Brompton designed insert to give you the idea of how to do it...Just means no one else taller than you can adjust the seat height..

Great tip, thanks for sharing - I just set my new "seat height stopper" in 2 minutes with single wrap of Gorilla tape, and no patience or trial & error needed. Just measure the difference between your preferred seat height, and the seat tube at full extension, and rip the tape to this difference. Then place the tape right at the very bottom of the seat tube where it flares out (this is the OEM stopper). So if your first measurement is 1", for example, then a 1" piece of tape will act as the new stopper, just 1" earlier.

Telescope down to fold seat post With a QR? (like Brompton/DaHon?)
My Mark is: I Recall of where the edge of the saddle touches My Hip when I stand Next to It.

Then If it needs fine tuning Its easy to do ..

Design Advantage to BF Tikit, Adjustment remains, because the seat mast folds Over , rather than Telescopes.

Unless, like me, you have the telescopic seat post.

Yeah, great minds and all that. I actually did this and ended up with an electrical tape goopy mess that took disassembly to clean. Sharpie works great, no melting electrical tape.

Brompton finally came out with a plastic insert to do the height adjustment job.

Yep, I use a carbide scribe to etch a line, then follow up with some testors enamel paint, then wipe.
Just enough of the enamel sticks down inside the scribed line to make it easier to see.
