New Brompton Shift Levers

New Brompton Shift Levers for my 6 Speed Brompton.

1st Impression

Action is kinda stiff compared to Brompton's OEM Shifters but they fall into each stop positively and firmly. I found the OEM 3 Speed Shifters sometime skip a stop if I flick them to hard.

Minimalist design makes for a clean cockpit, but I do miss the bell.

The only negative is this is not a straight swap. You need longer Shift Cables & Housing AND you need a special pinch bolt for the cable end leading to the rear derailleur.

RE: pinch bolt ... they decided to discard the standard cable heads for this pinch bolt?

No problems with the cables pointing toward the outside of the fold? I'd think they might catch on "stuff".

If you ever want to get a tighter turn on the cable run, perhaps a travel agent would help keep the housing close to the stem post.

Whoops! I see that the pinch bolt is for the derailer side of the cable.

The cable end in regards to the rear derailleur. The cable is flipped, the thick bit on the end is seated in the lever. This is normal when using a non OEM shifter.

It folds just fine but I will not be winning any Speed Fold Competitions anytime soon.

This is an aftermarket shift lever, sold for Bromptons, Not OEM standard On Brompton's Bike, By them , Right?

You tried using the head of the 2 speed in the back as usual, and your add on button on the lever end?

These are Remote Lock-out levers for suspension forks.

I opted for these because for the life of me I could not find a matching pair of Sturmey Archer levers. And even if I did, it was not guaranteed that the cable travel would match the OEM Shifters.

what was their source ?

I found the BSR and the Plastic 3 speed levers a big advance over the steel trigger and the AW3 on my Mk2 3T.

Have a Clamp on FD bracket burning a hole in the bin to use or sell and thinking of a 6 by 2 Black Brompton

2 2 speed levers on the left bar Perhaps..

'/,
These are Aftermarket. These are actually Remote Lockout levers for suspension forks.

No, the cable is flipped. The "Head" of the cable is seated in the lever and the "Cut" end is at the rear derailleur.

They're from DT Swiss:

Has anyone tried the Suntour shifter to replace the derailleur shifter from Brompton?

Edit: Will I need to add an inline barrel adjuster to the mix, or does the Suntour provide a way to adjust the cable tension?

Mountain drive crank shuttle button shifter on mine. M3L

revived Sun Tour company, or just recycling the brand name.? I do see it on Just suspension forks.

You may like the new minimalist Knog bell...

In the photo; looks like there is already a barrel adjuster towards the bottom where the cable comes out.

You're right. Thanks for pointing it out.

Can't wait for the package to arrive so I can check how well it works compared to the original.

Like those from DT Swiss, they're actually meant to be used to locking/unlocking forks on MTB bikes, so they aren't as durable as derailleur shifters, so I don't expect it to last as long. But after adding some barends, I'm hitting the shifter with my hand.

2017 they come with under the bars shifters.. easier to cope with flat tires if you flip the bike upside down, vs the over the bars types.

In the meantime, I solved the problem by simply filing down the derailleur shifter. It's obviously a bit harder to pull now because of a shorter leverage, but perfectly usable.

Took the Suntour shifter for a spin today, and it worked flawlessly.

Will report back after the two-week trip I'm making through Germany next month.
