Indeed.
A van & trailer pulled out in front of me about 10 years ago. I went over the bars & felt really shaken. The driver just accelerated away, & when I got up, he was too far away to do anything. My left arm started to throb & get more painful, but I thought it just swollen. A hospital visit showed my arm was broken. It healed of course, & seems ok these days.
I had no camera then, but I carry one most of the time now.
I too am in the CTC, for several years. If you're in the UK it's worth the sub' I think, if only for the insurance & help it provides. Recently they helped someone badly treated after an incident, for riding on the road when there was a cycle path available..
Cyclists really need some organisation to help in bad situations, as we're obviously more vulnerable than other road users, yet there's not much concern from the authorities for our welfare.
The biz. card idea's a good one.
@BBP, thankfully, sounds like you'll be ok. I hope it doesn't put you off riding!

If you go down this path have patience......I was hit from behind 2 years ago while in the bike lane. Head, spinal and leg injuries, it has totally changed my working life, no more heavy lifting etc. ( I delivered furniture for a job). The police did not charge the driver, they said "It was one of those things that happen" GRRRRRR. Fortunately the guy's insurance covered my bike and gear, and TAC ( Transport Accident Commission ) covered medical expenses...but as for compo...who knows? Happily I can still ride, but it makes me so mad as it still seems that the life and wellbeing of a cyclist is accounted as NOTHING in the eyes of the law.

Always insist on a Police report, especialy if it wasn't your fault. You will need a paper trail if you want to be fairly re-imbursed for injuries to you or your bike. That Florida link is very good, everyone should read that. I have been carted away in an ambulance and the police made no report...
