It has a so called Rohloff OEM left dropout with an OEM axle plate like on the bike pictured below.

My Birdy Rohloff uses the OEM2 axleplate engaged on the bolt supporting the mudguard. It's not fully compliant with the Rohloff guidance but works fine. I'm sure that R&M did their own testing.

The new Birdy called Birdy H series will be presented at the Taipei Cycle Show end of this week

It seems that it doesn't replace the Birdy 3 but will be a third line of Birdy besides the new Birdy Classic and Birdy 3?

Some more information are coming: its not a mid motor as announced earlier but a Mahle rear hub motor.

Its a totally new frame with a new fork and rear suspension arm that allow a smaller folded size and uses latest bike technologies like flat mount disc, thru axles...

No price and weight information yet.

More information on the North America Pacific cycles website, its a Mahle X30 rear hub motor.

The Birdy H weight 14.9kg, very good weight for a folding ebike with wide tires, full suspension an disc brakes able to ride on trails.

This Birdy H is the winner of the Taipei Cycle design & innovation Award 2026.

You do know that the "water bottle" is actually a battery?

I would like to buy a tri-fold eBike. That Mahle X30 usually can't do 30 mph like we like here in the US, though. So motor is insufficient, unfortunately.

Its a pedal assist ebike system and its actually what Mahle call the Mahle XS system made for lightweight bikes. so for the US market its a Class 1, not a Class 2 20mph or a Class 3 28mph with a throttle.

These Mahle hub motor exists in two versions, one with a 25km/h assist limit, another one with a 25mph assist limit, but Pacific Cycles has to decide if they want to have two types, one with 25km/h and another with 25mph for the different market legal requirements (and I have some doubt about the ability of these hub motor to reach 25mph with 50x355 wheels)?

And the small 171Wh bottle battery won't last long when riding at 25mph.

If you want a lightweight e-folding bike with an e-assists till 28mph, buy a Bike Friday All-day with a Bosch Performance Sprint mid-motor which is the 28mph version of the usual Performance SX.

For an Expedition rack that came without on a gen3 Birdy, what after-market roller wheels would you suggest so I can roll it folded?

Any easy wheel designed for the Brompton with M6 bolt will fit and allow to roll the Birdy folded. The one of Riese & Müller/Pacific Cycles shown have spacers and are very wide and heavy, they make the use of any side pannier impossible.

But most of those wheels, even without spacers, are too wide to allow the use of rear pannier.

These narrow and lightweight easy wheels work to roll the Birdy folded and still allow the use of Vaude rear Pannier with any risk of heel strike (they are sold under a lot of different brand names, they have bearings under their two side washers and several brands provide them with titanium bolt).

To replace the front brake pads, I had to unplug the SP SD-8 dynamo, remove the wheel, change the pads, and put the wheel back on.

Now, I have no light 😕It worked before. As far as I can tell, it can only be plugged in one way.

What could it be? Does the plug have to be turned in a certain way?

Edit: Fixed. One the wires had indeed gone… haywire.

Will Pacific cycles have a distributor for Birdy in Europe?
Or is Birdy sales in Europe over?!?
Thank you R&M for giving up on your start and deciding to throw your first child out the window...

Pacific Cycles will have a boot at next Eurobike where they will present the new Birdy H series with a German Mahle rear hub motor.

If they come to the Eurobike and present their latest Birdy, they will most probably set up a network of resellers in Europe like they just did in the US.

Not only does it require multiple spins of the crank to shift from cog 2 → 3 (all other cogs work fine, in both directions), the 10s 9-32T Sunrace Capreo cassette on my Birdy3 is getting a bit worn.

Besides the specific locking removal tool, I'd like to get a standard 11-42T Shimano cassette: Should I order a new hub (and a bigger chainring), or can its no-reference Sunrace hub take regular Shimano cassettes?

As far as I know, its not possible to mount a standard Shimano cassette or any other cassette than that specific Sunrace hub.

Its the reason why a replaced that hub by a hub with an SRAM XDR freewheel (and an exchangeable freewheel)..
