The Folding Video Thread

What? Don't you got no life?

OK then:

Claude wakes up at 07:00 but the weather will be hot, and so he eschews his Volkswagen. But, Claude cannot decide which colour B'Twin velo pliable to take today.

Then he rides like a mad potty thing through the citié streets of Lille, burning off the slothful at traffique lights and scattering wildlife

Contains annoying French humour and pigeon-bothering.

An extract from a BBC viddy, Mark Whatsisname reveals what drove him to design and develop the Strida when he could have been working on a proper bicycle. Slightly out of place BBC link commentary is annoying:

The Round-Up 2007 Fast Fold Showdown. Very excellent comparison of folding times between several bikes, including a Moulton and a Brompton. Annoying commentary, apparently by Minnie Mouse:

Dahons in the Desert. Two roving reporters who travel extensively show the amazing Bardenas Desert in Spain from the saddles of their Dahons. Great scenery, but contains occasional annoying yodelling on the soundtrack.

Speed Pro TT takes on the Lycra Louts up a mountain. Annoying Spanish music, but a Speed Pro overtakes many dilatory roadies. Nice legs.

Dr Alex Moulton's 2009 lecture at Coventry Uni. Annoying sound quality, but the Old Bean shines:

Four days in London, by an American Bromptonaut. Awesome! Contains references to 'Kaliber'; a joke beer made from pigeon droppings, which English wags force upon American visitors, a visit to the Brompton factory, and annoying rock music. With Dapper Racing Persons at the 2009 Brommie World Championships. Also has annoying pictures of Bromptons being made, Bromptons being ridden, Bromptons being abandoned on a train, etc. Nicely edited, but too many Bromptons.

Awesomer!

The esteemed "Gal from Down Under", Lynette Chiang. Until very recently Bike Friday's customer evangelist. She also shot and edited the video (and was the one on the pink Pocket Rocket Pro).

My entry to the videos would be this one, but strangely I can't seem to find it exactly...

And then there's this clown.

To bad the camera work was shaky -- the ride's pretty nice the whole way.

Our technical expert 'Iron-Paws' Jur shows how to change a folding-bicycle tire (sic) using only both hands, a pair of Crocs, and hundreds of fingers. Awesome! Annoying lack of pumped up death-metal music:

Dr Alex Moulton's 2009 lecture at Coventry Uni. Annoying sound quality, but the Old Bean shines:
As someone who has closely followed Alex Moulton in automotive suspension design and then bicycles, that is a stunning video. Just so fascinating to hear that the 2CV interconnected suspension was fundamental to the idea of developing interconnected Hydrolastic, to hear about the noisy monocoque prototype bike (0.5mm aluminium sheet!) - and so many other points he makes.

Has a biography of Moulton ever been produced?

Hey Snafu

Forwarded this to Mark 'wotsisname' Sanders, he thought it was very funny & whilst he was impressed to have become almost famous, he said he didn't think he'd be putting you on his Xmas card list this year!

Ah, I wondered why he no longer pops round on his day off to borrow the Dahon.

I quite like the innovation of the Strida. One of the HPFBS gangstahs had what appeared to be one the other weekend, alas it peaked out around 10mph while we wuz just getting into our stride (a). I think they would make great city bikes. If you guys are in London on Sunday 4th July come along to Hyde Park, do.

There's an interesting viddy here of a usability project in the USA, (six parts) which I meant to dig out the other day, but I was attempting to get a life. Contains annoying elevator music.

Can you take a folding bike off-road? This is the promo video for the MkI rebar frame Matrix, a 24 gear, 26" wheel sus-fork hardtail.

This is a vid of Len Rubin, his Ultimate Brompton was stolen a month or so ago, and a world-wide media cover ensued. The bike was recovered by a well-wisher and returned to Rubin as bike vigilantes combed the streets for the evil perp. Awful sound quality. Pardon?

Dr Yan of Downtube fame does pull-ups with a bicycle on his feet. Annoying promotion of lightness of bikes, and the heaviness of ego.

Freestyle jump riding on the Sinclair A-Bike, or reasonable copy thereof. Proving mainly that the A-bike is merely half a roller skate on a stick, our hero demonstrates bunny-hops, trials jumps, and repeated falling over. Annoyingly nerdy.

Commercial for the 'Yike-Bike', a sort of Star Wars generation flying penny-farthing bike, powered by plugging it into the mains. It looks fun, but strange. Appears to emit green kryptonite gas. Contains annoying 'singing' which sounds like a cat sliding down a blackboard.

The Brompton Nano Bike. Powered by an electric motor, and the result of five years fiddling about in a shed, the Nano retains the finger-severing Brompton handlepost flick, and vile bent top tube of the original. The voice-over sounds like a lecture from your annoyed father, proving that only professionals should be allowed access to video cameras.

How to fix an annoying puncture on a Brompton. Or just put the bike on Ebay, and buy two more with the proceeds. Contains use of a 'dog-bone' spanner, and footage of 'chain-winkling' .

London, Englandville. Dateline 16th June, 2010."World and Olympic Champion track star Victoria Pendleton has joined members of the All Parliamentary Cycling Group and other dignitaries on a bike ride around Westminster ahead of Bike Week, which starts tomorrow, and the jaunt was captured in a short film by Carlton Reid, the man behind the I Pay Road Tax campaign, among other projects."

Among those taking part in the ride was the Mayor of London’s Director of Transport, Kulveer Ranger, on one of the bikes from the soon-to-be-launched Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme, resplendent with the bank’s livery on its rear side panels. Contains annoying pictures of Br*mpt*ns and horrible tinkly Balti Restaurant music. London's Bike Cops on MTB's doing a grand job are visible at the front of the throng. Worth it mostly for a look at Ms Pendleton, who does for cycling what buns do for bears.
