Looking for a Dahon/Tern Uno

Hi, I just started becoming interested in bikes again after bringing my old kids mountain bike to work. I thought it would be fun to ride from the parking garage to my building to shave a minute off my commute haha. I thought it would be also handy to ride around town to pick up lunch. It looks a little goofy, but it was the only bike I had that would fit in my car.

I noticed Amazon Prime sold the Dahon Speed Uno for $400 shipped, but all of a sudden, it disappeared. I also tried looking for a Tern Link Uno in Black/Blue for $550 shipped at ThorUSA, but they also seem to be out of stock. Do you guys happen to have any leads? The local bike shop in the DC area doesn't seem to have them in stock either, and I've been patiently searching Craigslist everyday. Will Dahon produce more this year, or will I have to wait for the 2013 lineup? I'm very new to the bike scene so I'm not sure how these things work.

Your best bet if you'd like a new bike, covered under warranty, is to have your LBS contact the company's distributors directly to find out their stock. If the distributors have stock, then your LBS can order a bike in for you. If the distributors don't have stock, then find out their ETA, and if maybe other bike shops have some within whatever radius you're comfortable dealing with. Otherwise, it sounds like you're covering the ground most would look at.

I would stay away from Amazon dealers. There is always a compromise buying cheaper in terms of dealer prep and support when you need warranty service. As in the case on the Dahon Mu Uno thread, it wasn't even the dealer the customer who bought from helped but rather from Thor who did. He didn't have to do this, but doing this out of the goodness of his heart.

Go either ThorUSA and perhaps REI as they carry the Link Uno. There is a difficulty of ordering more stock because most of the time the dealers order the bikes by December and the manufacturer deliver them shortly after. Shops usually sell them out by June or July, so they can be ready for the 2013 season. Any left over is usually sold either at a discount or sitting on their showroom waiting for the right buyer. These days, it's all about customer service and you can tell shops that have exceptional service move their inventory really quick compared to those who sell at a discount but provide essentially no service whatsoever.

warranty is of course no problem anyhow ..... it seems that I am the fallback guy when it comes to solve stuff where the brick and mortar stores dont get anywhere lately .... hmmmm? and I am reading it usually is the other way around ..lol

I am out of Tern D8 in black and blue ..... I do have grey/orange and white/pink... well its not real pink ... dangit I am a guy ... I dont know all those color names.... ask one of the ladies .. they will know ... what I am saying is that its not too feminine of a pink.... its actually pretty cool ....

Thanks brakemeister!

I just spoke to Thor on the phone and went ahead and ordered my very first 'fancy' bike - he hooked me up with a Tern Link Uno in the specifications I was looking for. I did find a Speed Uno at Kozy's in stock for $435 shipped, but customer service and better quality seemed to outweigh price (lower than the Link Uno, but not the best deal) and design (personally, I like the straight lines on the Speed Uno). I never spent this much on a bike before, but I'm already toying with the idea of getting a Tern D8 in black/blue in the future for date activities.

The other day, when I was at the front gate, the guard asked me if I stole my bike from my little brother...Here's a picture of my current bike. I keep it locked up at work so I don't have to haul it around.

It's actually a Toyota MR2 Spyder, but thanks! Waiting for my Lancer to come out of the shop so I can start bringing it to work. It's a really tight fit in the passenger seat wrapped in a moving blanket.
