Dahon Boardwalk Single Speed Frame materials
Hi, I am looking for a single speed folder for a 3-speed IGH conversion and the Dahon Boardwalk interests me.
I hope the Dahon experts and owners can help me with my question.
The current model (dark color) seems to be made of Hi-ten steel.
Among the older fire-red models, I found there are different frame materials (stickers). This first one on the auction site does not say CrMo but the second one says so. Also if you look carefully, the first one has a dimple on the top tube near the heard tube (on the non-drive side). I initially thought it was a dent but I have found other images of bikes that also have that dimple.

CrMo

Are there different fire-red models with different frame materials?
Thanks,

I would like to get a Boardwalk with CrMo frame. So my original question is how to tell.
The second one I linked on the auction site has the sticker so no problem. However, I may not win that one if others bid higher.
Then the 1st one I linked has the same color but has a different (no CrMo) sticker.
I was hoping there are owners of these models so they can chime in.

if it is a crmo frame than Dahon would certainly not put a hi ten sticker on it
there are HUGE differences.... mainly the sticker...lol the Crmo frame is "harder" than the hi ten .. theoretically ..anyhow ..
No way you will find out the difference while riding ...
the Hi Ten frame is a little heavier due to more thicker tubing .... ( again theoretically it flexes harder but stays in new position easier, versus flexes easy but "springs" back... in case you want to widen the frame for a new OLD...)
Weight is indeed a valid reason to go crmo ... but we are talking a few grams ...I would guess around 300 to 400 grams
However if you are building a superlight Boardwalk ( oxymoron by itself ) than you wouldnt want an IGH hub to start out with ....
In other words ...dont worry about the frame material

Just get a recumbent trike, bolt all the things to it (fenders, rack, lights, flag, bottle cage, seat bag with tools, etc., etc.), and then go buy a hi-ten Boardwalk like I did, it'll feel ultra-light compared to the trike.

Once you're in possession of the bike, it's easy to find out.
I think I got this sorted out. If the seller shows a pic with the CrMo sticker, then there is no doubt. If there is no picture, then it might still be CrMo but I probably just avoid it. I have seen pictures showing half the sticker on these same color fire-red models. The top row says "...te" and second row ". . . ten". It could be "Lite Hi-Ten" (my guess).
These without the CrMo stickers got no bids so they have been listed over and over.
I am in no hurry because I have about 15 bikes to ride, just no folder. It will be converted to IGH so I want to get the right frame.

Yes, I have. By the time I convert it to 3-speed IGH, the final price is similar to the Raleigh 8i (slightly used).
At he same time, I am also looking at a couple Raleigh 8i's.
REI also has a IGH model (Novara FlyBy). When it is on sale, it is also in the converted Speed Uno price range.

Thanks. When I am ready for the conversion, I will keep that in mind. I do have 6 or 7 various SA and Shimano 3-speed hubs with 36 or 40 holes.
