I am going to the Stop, Swap and Save this Sunday in Westminster Maryland.

Sunday, February 18th, 2024. 9-2pm (Shameless plug)

Last couple years I found fold-ups (an beautiful older Peugot three speed was one) that were originally marked up way overpriced.

Later when I stopped by the seller I found it was sold for a fraction of the price. I should learn to haggle.

Maybe this year I'll find get a new (old) bike.

BTW, whenever I leave there without a bicycle, my wife is like "Are you OK?"

Wish me luck.

Out and about with "The Twins"

Long time lurker/first time poster here. The twin Campos were at Paseo Lineal today; even made a cameo appearance at "the Fuschia Carpet" with My Girl.

Please, don't be; plan your next winter vacation (or any time of the year for that matter!) and visit us; a little island with a big, warm heart (and gorgeous places to visit, both in cities and country).

Between crappy non-existant UPS customer service and Spanish/EU customs it found it's way to Spain with some difficulty and delay. But it got here eventually.

They're profoundly similar, yet considerably different.
The aluminium bike is lighter and feels sportier. However the steel Swift as spec'd is a comfortable ride. It rolls easily enough over the mountain roads and doesn't seem that much slowed down by the extra weight. I regularly take it out on mountain rides (which is pretty much almost any bike ride out of town here). The stock bars are a bit wider on the steel Origami. It's a nice iteration of the Swift and I think that many people will make good use of the rack and the extra mounts on the bike. In that sense it's probably more practical as a bike for commuting and carrying stuff than the Xootr.

I replaced the derailleur, shifter and disc brakes though. If anything let the bike down a bit it might be that these components aren't great quality. Maybe for a little bit more money these could be upgraded a bit if Origami decide they want to carry on production? I had a friend visit me from Switzerland for a week and we did a lot of riding while she was here. She ended up preferring the Xootr a bit, so that's mostly what she rode while I rode the Origami. But we were both going on nice long bike rides every day and I enjoyed being consistently on the Origami bike. I certainly didn't feel like I was riding a plodder.

I wonder if the Origami would be a good contender for a Nexus or Alfine 8 speed IGH? I have a spare Nexus.

I owned a Xootr Swift, and I went with, unfortunately, a Nuvinci hub. It was a boat anchor, but it made me FAST!!! The Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub would be perfect with the Origami Swift. The Alfine line is said to be a bit unreliable, so I'd stick w/the Nexus. It would be a bit heavier, but it would be a bit less maintenance all around.

About 32# worth of groceries - 5# in the front and the rest split out back. Bike did great but you can definitely feel the weight.
