On the Wed nite club ride with my Bike Friday.

Just wanted to relate a small incident that happened on last Wednesday's evening bike shop ride. It was the last Wednesday night ride of the year and I decided go for the first time and to take the Bike Friday Pocket Rocket. I purchased that Bike Friday two years previously, in anticipation of using it in Europe. Since air fare prices never came back down from the summer tourist season, I skipped my annual springtime trip to Italy.

The Wednesday night ride was advertised as a casual ride with all types of bikes and ages. So, I thought it would be the perfect time to take the Bike Friday out on its maiden ride, thinking that I wouldn't get dropped.

Well, the ride went well. I was a bit frustrated because the pace was slow, slow, slow. That was okay. It was supposed to be a social ride. A co-worker was also on the ride, and he is a stronger rider than I am, however he was on his old 'shopping bike' because his wife was riding also. About two blocks from the end of the ride, he says to me, as he jumps out ahead with a burst of speed, "You know . . . it's a tradition that we race at the end."

It turns out that I was in just the right gear and tore out after them. Within a hundred feet, I had passed everyone and rocketed to the end, finishing a good distance in front of everybody. The co-leader of the ride remarked that he couldn't believe how fast that folder is.

I'm much more happy with the purchase of that Pocket Rocket and will use it more often on my rides, opting for it on occasion instead of one of the fancy 'racing' bikes.

Good for you! Although it's not as fast or quite as robust as your BF, many of my friends are surprised how well I can keep up with my Brompton... plus it beats a full size bike for convenience when bringing it out of the rain or for security!
