Exact same thing here.

I can't believe I can actually post without having to retry 5-6 times.

He apparently removed his imposed hold on your accounts because deathhare still doesnt work.

Seems clear to me that Brian is responsible for this.

Hey DH, thank you for this! I would have never though this was -personally- directed at me, I thought everybody had the same problem due to some server upgrade or something, but today I started to be impatient and was about to ask some folks I know here, whether they were experiencing the same performance problems. I just couldn't believe BF would allow such catastrophically low performance for more than a few hours.

Its pretty fishy that us three..that were in with most of the heat in SSFG on the Tommasini issue immediately had this problem. And now Brian is starting to un-do it?
Im sure there will be some great excuse for all of this.

I tried to contact another dude that got into the debate on the anit-Tommasini side, I am curious what his experience is.

Fact is, Siu Blue Wind went down pretty hard on both deathhare and me, not sure if luv_hooters got the special treatment, too - but I guess is he might have. Whoever is doing this, has a vindictive personality and I fear him/her great deal and am happy I (probably) don't live in the same city as him/her!

I had closed the SS/Fixie forums briefly a couple of times over the last few days. I'm guessing anyone who was logged in during one of those periods got pooched. Even though I fix SQL databases all day long, I can't seem to find the specific cause, but simply querying the user tables seems to fix things.

Would you like a foil hat? If anyone else is having issues, it will need to wait until I finish my dinner.

OK, I hope that's the reason. I don't like to be on anyone's sh*tlist. But why didn't others complain, too? Like serendipper, he's been logged on quite a lot, in the past few days.

Doofo (or deathhare), give it up. Not only can we not log you out, but there would be no reason to. If we didn't want you logged in, we'd just ban you.

Hey Brian...

IT guy here...not a dB expert...but I do know a few things can go on with forum apps...

Oftentimes when you apply auditing features, user and log monitoring features, it is going to cause some module(s) built into the forum software to work overtime eating up CPU cycles and RAM and disk swap when an audited/monitored user or IP address generates activity. And of course since the session cookies, logs and such are in this case being fed into MySQL/Oracle/PSQL it effectively loads the hard drive again...

Your queries at the shell SQL level in text mode simply flushed some cached tables and buffers freeing up some memory and thereby speeding things up a tad...

So chances are, you just need to stop or lower some threshhold of any admin utility interface used to apply infraction points, language filtering, ip and user log and activity monitoring.

And for those who don't like reading the above...

...take a deep breath, exhale slowly...relax the fists and fingers...it is not much different from school teachers and vp's monitoring the playground for a day or so after a little fight between us kids...um...excuse me...us adults...

So relax guys....

...and Brian...just take care of it please....

Thanks!

=8-)

I already know you can log us out in the terminal.
That issue is pretty irrelevent anyway at this point and I dont care what you can or cant do at all.
I doubt any of us do.
I just want my name back.

Might also want to consider increasing the amount of SQL tables cached in memory by 8M, 16M or 32M via the SQL daemon command line or config file if you admins/mods think it can be done without affecting overall server performance.

Seriously though, I never sign out either at home or work. All morning everything is fine, but then midday it took me at least 15 minutes to post this which happened to conclude a pretty heated exchange (all gone via Cuda2k(?)) I even mention it in the post. Then just before going home, everything is fine. I get home to my still signed in PC, everything's fine.

Good luck DH.

You actually spent 15 minutes trying to post? If I get the "server busy" message, I go find something better to do, and that's sometimes due to a 30 second IP search.

Looks like Lotek was able to run a script that fixed deathhare's account. He reindexed something. Seems like a shortcut to what I did. Or perhaps he remembered to drop a table and commit. Whatever. It's fixed.

I think it might have fixed it. One of the tables looked suspiciously fragmented, and yes
time stamps were right around the tommasini (crown) affair. We also were moving posts rather quickly,
3 or 4 people modding it at the same time. I suspect we somehow broke pointers (not really sure here)
but I've seen similar problems with tables in mainframe env. I suggested reorg of the tables (especially user tables) and reindexing of them.
Not sure that it works but the table structures look better to me.
Let me know if it still farked.

Marty

i'd like to reiterate that i believe this was an unfortunate coincidence and nothing more

i wish that deathhare hadn't made accusations using my account

but keep in mind that a day without bikeforums is more than some of us can bear
