Dave Cutter, nobody likes a Debbie Downer. I can appreciate your recovery/abstention/whatever it is you are doing, but coming into a BEER thread to spout your self righteous position on the choice others are making should be back at the meeting convincing someone else....

I don't care if anyone has a beer when they ride or not. I will say this, the OP mentioned next time he'd bring something in a can. FYI, if it's in a can, it's not beer.

Now having cleared that up...

I will say this, if a cyclist were hit and killed by a motorist, and a blood test indicated he had a small amount of alcohol in his system after having had one beer, the people on this forum would likely be lighting the torches and grabbing the pitchforks crying out for the motorist's head on a platter demanding swift and severe justice to be carried out against the motorist who was "driving under the influence".

Then opinion wouldn't really matter much anyway.

You may note that courts all over America always blame the cyclist anyway.

Not true. More and more small brewers are canning beer now.

Still not beer, no matter what it was before they put it into the can.

IMO - it's pretty simple, beer comes on tap or in a bottle, Budwiser comes in cans. (that should rile up the townspeople)

Some would, but those same people would call him a murderer regardless of the circumstances. People (not just those here) bring their own prejudices to situations, then look for details to use in support.

Cycling and beer are like drinking and sex. Yeah, you can get into some trouble, but they really go hand-in-hand.

It is interesting here in Hawaii. Trucking on the mainland is deregulated, but ocean shipping is regulated federally as common carrier. So InBev (Bud) was able to get a low tariff for full bottles of beer (which as a common carrier, the rate extends to everyone). But shipping empty bottles is very expensive, so it is actually cheaper to ship them with beer in them. Thus the local craft brewers that want to go beyond draft/bar sales (eg Kona Brewery) brew/bottle on the mainland. But some are experimenting with cans (cans are produced locally from sheet aluminum) such as Maui Brewing to get around that.

However I must confess I'd prolly have some mid-ride if I was offered something other than swill. Below, ladies and gents, we have a picture of the right kind of good beer:

Like the song says, you can't always get what you want. But I go up to RRBC a couple of times a year, and drink quite a bit of stuff from their taps.

I would hardly call any of these Budweiser
https://www.thrillist.com/drink/nati...beers-in-a-can

I'm always happy to find good beer in cans, as in many places glass simply isn't allowed or is a bad idea...places like a pool deck, tubing down the river, boating, anything active or out in public. Broken glass (or carting out unbroken glass from whatever activity you were doing) isn't fun. At least your premise that Budweiser is not a beer is correct

I find riding plenty challenging/dangerous enough while sober. But maybe that's just a reflection of my own skills ad reflexes....

I haven't decided if this thread reads better before or after a beer, or if it drives someone there, but I think the question should be rephrased...

Anyone ever take a beer to enjoy while posting on BF?

You're missing the whole point. The real question is whether it's OK to have a beer or two while, or immediately before, posting here.

Shouldn't this go into A&S then? I'm sure the folks over there would have quite a lot to say..

Had a good lunch beer today - Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. Seeing as I forgot the salad part of my lunch (but remembered the little bit of meat), it was a nice treat to have with the granola bar I ended up having instead.

Is it one beer or two? A lot depends on the individual person, their mental capacity and overall ability to communicate in a coherent manner.

I would think think that a lot would depend on the size of a person's brain. A person that has a below normal brain, oops I mean a more svelte size brain, may only be able to handle one beer and be able to safely operate a keyboard. On the other hand someone with a large, robust, and manly, I mean somewhat above normal size, brain may be able to handle two or more. And there will always be those who rarely drink and type who should probably refrain from drinkng anything and posting at all.

I was getting worried there that I would not see any Oskar Blues listed, then they hit me with Ten Fidy!! Had one earlier this week. Light is the enemy of beer. Glass lets light in. Aluminum does not let light in. Pretty easy concept really. Now to get someone to send me some Heady Topper.

Both times the waiters were surprised (but not offended) when we declined to have wine with out meals. Typically, the wine is table wine with low alcohol content. Some of the people at the camp with us had wine at a lunch stop in the middle of a long ride.

Personally, neither of us will drink alcohol during road rides, but I often stop off for happy hour during my ride home from work. And the GF and often ride to dinner and then ride home after drinking.
