Cycling and beer drinking don't mix together very well. I keep those two activities separate.

Nothing wrong with enjoying a beer while out on a ride. However, not being a Brit, I prefer my beer cold (especially on hot days) so prefer to buy a cold one enroute rather than carrying a warm one.

Uh...that would be no. I cannot see drinking anything alcoholic while riding a bike.
Also, check your local laws. Even in West Va, it may not be legal to drink publically.

I don't understand. What's so magical about beer that it'd be worth lugging into the woods for a 'beer picnic?"

Two weeks ago i had to phone an ambulance for somebody who thought it would be a good idea to ride home from a bar drunk, with a heavy courier style bag on his side ( on road at night without lights)
Was lying in the road temporarily unconscious. A bloodied mess.
I saw him last week, he told me he had some stitches. And that he would walk next time.
Beer and cycling sounds good . . .until your first crash.

My previous post didn't include a photo. I'm guessing the jpg file is too large ...? (I asked Admin to delete it for me since I could not delete it.)
At any rate, here's a link ...
Edit ... even a link to the jpg file at my site didn't work. Here's a link to my web site where the photo is on my home page ...
Let's see if this works ...

Not in the middle of a ride under the hot summer sun. However, I've ridden to a couple of happy hours for cyclists at a local brewpub. It's fun.
We're usually out by 9PM or earlier and take lots of water along with the beer.

Nothing is better than a frothy cold one during a break in a long ride.
Can't see lugging around a bottle o brew when there are so many nice places to chill out and enjoy
There are 'pub' rides in Tampa. Lots of fun and the group keeps it safe.

Might as well have another while driving the car home (with the bike in the rack) as well. [It would] Probably be a good time to smoke a joint and unwind while checking email and texts on the phone too. Heck.... you only live once... right? Nothing makes a good time better than a little self-medicating.
Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against a good time. But unless you're on private property.... drinking and driving/cycling is unlawful (and a really bad idea) in MOST places. But it's a big world. I am sure it completely acceptable.... SOMEWHERE.
We should all remember that alcoholic beverages are addictive. Inappropriate use of addictive drugs isn't just a bad idea... it's a sign to review your use of the drug.

I added Bicycle ? WiseCracker one in 27.2 to the seatpost, & one in 28.6, to the steerer tube
to make sure the pecky cap would come off..
depended on the country I was riding through.. my last miles on tour days , included a stop for a cool one..
outfitted my handlebar bag to hold it, or another beverage, inside it..upright .
Slow moving Quite stable with those 4 full panniers, and the calories burn off like most others ..
Making no attempt at a Holier than Thou Posturing..
BTW the Pub Rooms are cooler in Britain/Ireland, so the pint 'room temperature' is cooler too ..

Now, if we were talking about bringing a six pack and sitting on a rock while downing all six before starting back, that would be a completely different issue.

I agree with the proportion statement.
I mean really..............drinking A single beer is putting you on the road to addiction?
Seriously, me thinks only an alcoholic would think that

Me and a riding buddy usually bring a beer to stop and enjoy when we do a day of riding. Unlike 99% of the replies, I'll say a good idea if it's a good beer. Just make sure you have the water too .

As I posted earlier, it's more about maintaining a sense of proportion and enjoying a drink now and then vs. drinking to excess, which is a fairly easy distinction for most people.

A bit of proportion is needed here....
..... Even 2 beers would not be an issue for someone weighing 150#s or more, especially if he's active.
...... if we were talking about bringing a six pack and sitting on a rock while downing all six before starting back, that would be a completely different issue.

Oops! I just saw the latest post. Apparently I was mistaken about the "numbers" of beverages being important. It's the frequency.
