Carrying a beer on a bike ride seems like one of those fraternity pranks where you shake up a beer then hand it to somebody who's already had a few.
Not that I know what that would be like.

Now that I think of it, my colossal crash (broken jaw, 13 cracked teeth) when I was 16 was in part due to me having wrapped myself around a quart of Malt Liquor (that, and skimping on the sew-up glue on my wheels).
I think, like a lot of things, it depends upon the level you take it to. Knocking back a fifth of Jack Daniels on a ten-minute, three mile ride will probably get you to a world of new pain. Or drinking three or four tripel or quadrupels at a rest stop and then getting back on your steed. But a good beer that you drink with plenty of water during a half-hour break is unlikely to be too negative if you are used to drinking.

I never would carry a beer with me, but I did go on a "tour" of Fort Wayne on bike, and this "tour" stopped at a half a dozen hip bars along the route where a lot of "cyclists" got drunk really bad before they even made it to the last couple of bars. My friends and I pulled out of the tour after the second bar, it was getting too dangerous even at that point. Cops knew this was going on, it goes on every year, but on that day the cops look the other way, I guess it's good for business? But I did get a really nice cold home brewed dark beer at the first bar, the second bar was getting too crowded to even get service. So we split from the crowd and took off on our own, on our way back to town we cruised by the last bar on the route, and it was a freaking clown show.
