I am looking at the Hope and Wheels Mfg thread-together press-fit bottom brackets and am trying to figure out how the individual bearings can be replaced when they give out. Seeing as it's the weekend and I probably won't get an answer from the manufacturers, does anyone know if you have to remove the entire assembly from the bike to change the bearings?

Edit: Maybe question 1 should be: do these alleviate creaking press-fit bottom bracket problems?

Creaking press-fit BBs are usually a sign that they BB cups were not perfectly aligned at installation, I believe. Have you put enough miles on the BB bearings to wear them out? if not, I'd suspect installation issues.

There have been lots of threads about press-fit BB issues. I think in the end most of the time it was poor installation causing the noise.

I do not yet have my press-fit BB bike. I ordered a new frame and am planning the other purchases I need to make.

Do press-fit frames eventually wear out from BB changes? I am trying to make the best decision up front.

Try to simply Buy a threaded BB frame .. that type continues to be made while the fancy bike people

keep changing the Various Press fit schemes, repeatedly .. each trying to be exclusive.

Screw in external Bearing Hollow tech should be Good enough.

internal Bearing BB and Square taper is well Proven..

In the generic BB I got with my Workswell, the bearing assemblies come out without removing the cups .... and sometimes, while removing the cups.

As far as I can tell a bearing change would be easy.

Also as far as I can tell the bearings are not the source of the creaking.

If I am wrong about any of this ... you go your money's worth. But hey ... I am sincerely trying.

Yes, of course the bearings can be replaced. You can take it to a shop or use the ole socket extractor/press trick to get them out

They are much more secure than generic SRAM press fit BBs. In our case there was a void in the BB shell of my kid's S Works frame (purchased second hand). A little DP460, some dremel action and a Wheels Mfg thread together pressfit has had him rolling along without problems for two years.

Any creaking can be eliminated via carbon paste or a quality grease, depending on frame material.

In general I don't think press-fit bearings are intended to be removable from the cups. Especially the plastic cups it's easier just to replace the whole thing. I just put in the WM threaded AC bearing PF30 BB in my bike (Al BB shell in a carbon bike). I only have a couple hundred miles on it without any problem, but probably too soon to tell. Per WM instructions, I used grease on the cup/shell interface.

I did see a tool to remove PF bearings from the cups and it seemed very elegant but cost around $100.

I installed my pressfit BBRight using grease ... I figure if it creaks I can Locktite it later ... so far, no issues whatsoever.

It was a bear to press in, and the first time it went in a little crooked. In pressing it back out to start over I learned that the bearings pop right out.

Praxis and similar are supposed to work well and cut the creak significantly. I've seen bikes like some of Jamis' offerings with Wheels Mfg. threaded inserts pre-installed these days. I find this somewhat ironic: heaven forbid they simply go with a BSA BB. Never used a threaded adaptor myself.
