Schwinn Frontier mountain bike? Is it worth fixing?
Found this guy at the dump today, normally don't pick up bikes from there unless they're in good condition. I'm not sure of exactly what this needs yet, I want to know if it's a Wal-Mart Schwinn or bike store Schwinn. It has a bike shop sticker on it but not a store I recognize.
Anyone know what they're worth?

Around me, in ready to ride shape? Probably $75-100. In said needs repaired shape? Probably around $40-50.
Doesn't look like it needs much to clean up and sell at some sort of profit, though.

Bikes: 199? Landshark Roadshark, 198? Mondonico Diamond, 1987 Panasonic DX-5000, 1987 Bianchi Limited, Univega... Chrome..., 1989 Schwinn Woodlands, Motobecane USA Record, Raleigh Tokul 2
I'd somewhat disagree with the above.
Looks like a cheap wal-mart bike from the 90s. Bolt on wheels? Claw derailleur? Modern (90s) graphics?
If it was a bike store bike, it was definitely after schwinn sold out and became crap.
$100 in perfect working condition.
As is? $50.
Both of those prices are generous.
Head tube badge may have a 4 digit number stamped onto it. What is the number?

Also, here's a sticker from the bike shop

It looks like the 99 model, but it has different shifters

I'd be willing to fix that on free bike. Then again I like doing that kind of thing. You might want to check the department store for cable housing and cables. I find them much cheaper than LBS. I would think the right ones for a 90's Schwinn would be common. I rarely do kick stands on resale bikes though. Some people don't want them. If I'm keeping it that's completely opposite story.

I'd fix it up. In fact, it doesn't look any less sophisticated than my dedicated winter bike. My preference would be to get it into functional shape without buying any new parts, then figure out what it really needs.

For a bike like that, you can get a set of four cables and housing for under $10 at WalMart/Meijer/whatever generic box store is by you. Unless you are actually riding it and prefer such things, I'd skip the kickstand and reflectors, they'll add nothing to the value.

Thanks everyone, may have found someone to buy it. I have a whole roll of cable housing and a ton of new cables. I don't throw bikes away without taking the reflectors, so I have a whole box of them.
