If you've never encountered a mountain biker with a type A then you've never raced. I can tell you that.

I still haven't worked out which is the biggest issue, with regards to people having their heads shoved hard up their asres.

Then there is the arrogant, type-jackass personality that weighs in with opinions that are immediately irrelevant nor taken seriously. aka the Pot meet Kettle syndrome.

Instead of crying about Americans you should thank them. Because German could be your national language right now right now.

Still haven't gotten over that ass whoopin' your great, great, great, great grandpappy and company took back in the late 1700s? While I like good fish and chips, a good burger is better. And we have way better dentistry in this country.

I mean, I'm all for knocking a Brit down a few pegs but the whole "you'd be speaking German if it wasn't for us" thing is tired, unoriginal, and played out. Might as well have someone from France hollering that Brits would be speaking Danish if it wasn't for the Normans.

Hi, what's this thread about? Roadies are jerks? Cool.

2manybikes 03-07-18 10:44 AM

Why do I have a different personality type when riding one of my road bikes, or one of my MTB's?
Is this going to be on the final exam?

BobbyG 03-07-18 10:48 AM

Just to be safe, I have adopted and exhibit multiple personalities.

Right, time to get back on topic here.

The best way I've found to melt the ice that some type A roadies seem to be encased in, is to offer a friendly wave. It usually turns out that all they needed was a little more love.:D

With the type B mountain bikers I've found that carrying a bong does the trick... :innocent:

well, Americans would be speaking, uh, English if it weren't for the French.

And I think we should tone the interpersonal stuff down a little please, or do I have to lock the thread?

I have two kids with diametrically opposed personalities and temperaments, who were born in the exact same place 1 minute apart. Every parent of twins knows empirically how bogus astrology is.

AlmostTrick 03-07-18 12:29 PM

Lets not forget Type O, for Overly serious. ;)

While stereotyping cyclists according to their customs, style and "habitats" seems harmless, and it is, it also employs the type of tribalistic bias, and us versus them mentality that underlies racial and cultural bias, and I feel that the less we exercise the muscles of bias and bigotry the better.

Tribalism is human nature. It's why we have biases. We group ourselves without anyone else's influence and exclude others for our own reasons. That doesn't necessarily mean that tribe over there is against us, or you, or me, because they or all of us have diametric viewpoints. And no, naturally we won't all be able to live together in haaaar-moe-neeeee. Sometimes cats and dogs can live together and other times they shouldn't.

So serious http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/me...y-emoticon.gif

I admire the passion 'roadies' typically put into their travels. I can't remember the last time i saw someone dressed normally over drop bars. Yet any other bike it's normal.

I don't get it.

Cycling to work, and listening to people talking about going to the gym or eating healthier, i would ask why they drive to work. Like sheep, they all follow each other's behaviours.
One day i'd be on a shopper, another a hybrid. They pay attention because i'm skinny.

So the next thing you know, others at work are all buying bikes. And almost immediately having to out-do each other, thinking they're in the Tour De France...
Three, four thousand pound carbon bikes, dressed like they're doing a triathlon, and we get all these Strava updates on Facebook like, how many miles, what time, etc...

Wtf man, just get a 3-speed shopper and have an enjoyable little cruise in the countryside. Preferably with your other half.

What's it all about..?

caloso 03-07-18 10:29 PM

Since they all listen to you, what with you being so skinny and all, maybe next time be more specific about the correct way to enjoy cycling.

AlmostTrick 03-08-18 05:34 AM

Hellgate 03-08-18 06:38 AM

Just say, "Hello" and introduce yourself on the next group ride. It's amazing how being friendly goes a long way. Besides if a group is hammering hard, it's difficult to speak. Seriously...

Boring troll is boring.

Rydabent sock?

****.

dog gone people

most people look in the mirror and see what they want to see ... same goes for self diagnosing one's "personality" ... dogs are the best judges of human personality(s) ... dogs figured people out thousands of years ago ... people still can't prove who they are to themselves much less to others ... want to know who you are > ask a dog :commute:

Ghazmh 03-08-18 07:22 PM

Is there a label for dudes who are in to road biking instead of golf or yard work or bowling?

The correct way is what you enjoy. Some people do have some weird ways to enjoy themselves, though...

bikebasket 03-09-18 05:01 AM

I like bikes for touring. Tourer's have always seemed to me to be the opposite of Type A personalities. The anti hero. Anti establishment....The Dude.

Yes, you're racing, whether your realize it or not. There may not be an actual winner, but you're still racing.

In my mind, I'm wearing the pink jersey at the Giro, but in reality I'm trailing the lantern rouge by quite a ways.

But if you can't see anyone in front of you, then you're in front. Right?
