I know BMX riders often have pegs on the rear wheels that they use for tricks and also use for passengers you stand on. I also saw some "passenger pegs" for a beach cruiser in the past that were like platforms so it would be more comfortable for a person to stand on. And when I was a kid I remember seeing BMX bikes with rear pegs that kind of looked like handles, mounted on the rear frame. They were more sturdy and more comfortable to stand on than the average peg.

I am hoping somebody can tell me where to get some good passenger pegs for the rear of my bike. I'd like them to be larger than the rod style pegs that just attach to the hub. Preferably either the handle style pegs that attach to the frame, or the platform style pegs, which also attach to the frame. And I'd also like them to fold up when not in use.

I ride a folding bike around the city during the day, and sometimes, though not very often, I need to bring a passenger along. If I could unfold some platforms that are comfortable to stand on, that would really be great.

Anyone know where I could find such a thing? This would only be for short rides of less than 10 minutes in each direction, only used a couple of times per month. But I'd still like to have them because right now it's really difficult when this situation comes up.

An Extracycle and other long tail cargo bikes offer a foot rest, accessory.. for their rear load section..

BMX pegs require , now, strong axles and you need a socket wrench and a extension , to reach the axle nut ...

I would be transporting my lady, and she's small and light. No worries there.

My bike is too small for a companion seat. That would be a great idea though if my bike was a little bigger. It's too low to the ground for a companion to sit above the rear tire without their feet either dragging on the ground behind them or getting in the way of my pedaling.

N+1 time.. new bike; Classic Dutch bikes have very strong rear racks, & bigger tires..there their passenger's feet don't touch the ground..

Motorcycles have passenger folding rear pegs, not bicycles.. longtail as I described above..

Over here, and I assume in other places too, the law is pretty firm on that the only bikes that can legally carry two adults are those who are built to carry two adults from the start.
I don’t think fitting a sturdy, padded rack to a stock bicycle is enough to dodge that definition.

It’s agains city ordinance here. Can’t only carry passengers if the bike was originally designed for. Always thought it was dumb I guess. But if peg weight limits are an issue maybe not so dumb.

Oh yeah they are written for people who do foolish things. I went back and looked and it’s worded as ridden with manufactured capacity with the exception of child seats and carriers. Also thought it was funny we have an ordinance saying you can’t ride no handed or no footed. Made me laugh.

In my state, it says that no bicycle may carry more people than it was designed and equipped for. Seems to be fairly broad language. Also says that someone riding a bicycle may only ride upon or astride a "permanent and regular seat attached thereto" so a passenger riding astride on pegs would be illegal, I suppose unless a seat were attached.

That companion bike seat looks like a death trap. I have seen similar stuff and I wouldn't put anyone on it of any weight but especially not anywhere near even 75 pounds. I also certainly wouldn't want to haul extra weight on a folding bike even on a top quality from Bike Friday or Tern or something unless it was under 50lbs and not a person.

Also I doubt you are going to get foot pegs on a folder and want to ride with someone on them. You might consider getting this passenger a bike so they aren't a passenger or if they are really lightweight you could get a kid trailer.

The base vehicle was only meant for for one adult rider. Having a padded rack added by the owner doesn’t change that.

It’s rare, but it does happen. I’ve seen it once.
Act stupidly and/or annoyingly enough and an officer may choose to treat you to the full attention of the law.
Refusing to stop giving another adult a ride when requested will do it, and resulted in a fine.

I'm not worried about breaking any laws. I see BMX riders with a passenger standing on their pegs almost every day. I don't think it's illegal here, and if it is illegal here then it's definitely not enforced. I just don't want those BMX pegs because they're probably very uncomfortable to stand on, especially in heels, lol. And I want something that mounts to the frame, not just the wheel hub. And I also want them to fold up and out of the way when not in use. Most BMX pegs are just cylinders that stick out from the hub, even when not in use.

Unfortunately a bigger bike isn't an option. Due to the storage situation where I keep the bike, it has to be a little, folding bike. It is pretty sturdy though, and it does have a rack on the back that it came with, so it's made to handle at least a little extra weight.

Honestly, the rides will only be a few blocks long on flat city sidewalks. It's just faster than walking so I'd rather use the bike.

When I first got my DB Difter1 I put pegs on it, for no reason at all and rode a friend who wieghed just as much as I do on it, no problems other than starting off.

So the problem now is my rear axle, or whatever you call the threaded part to screw the nuts on to hold the rear wheel, are not long enough to add pegs and still have room for the nut.

Does anyone sell a longer rear axle?
