A thread about men in tights can't not have some Biker Fox in it.

As a practical matter if I wore tights for my street wear, how would I carry my things? Does that mean I need to get a fanny pack? Or, worse yet, <gasp> a murse?

mcours2006 03-23-18 06:42 PM

My wife wears yoga tights all the time. She carries a bag with her, but often forgets where she put her bag, and even then, often forgets where she put her keys and wallet. I, OTOH, have no such issues.

WizardOfBoz 03-23-18 07:09 PM

In my view professionally, in the office, its completely inappropriate. A CLM (career limiting move).

In public, casually, if you are willing to offend some people's sense of propriety and aesthetics, you can do it. If you are a caring and courteous person, no way.

Dirt Farmer 03-23-18 07:13 PM

Not sure. All I know is that my bulge is bigger than your bulge.

rollagain 03-23-18 07:54 PM

It can't be any worse than some of the photos I've seen of what people wear to Wal*Mart.

50PlusCycling 03-23-18 08:16 PM

Only when I ride my bike. I often stop during my ride for a meal, or stop at the grocery store on the way back, I'm not shy about walking around in tights. But not being a super hero, I don't like to wear them any other time.

Brob2 03-24-18 03:14 AM

First of all, there are tights, and then there are tights. For the latter, um, never. For the former, only when I'm on my way home from a ride, and even then I will usually throw something over them if I'm stopping at the pub.

We're Canadian, gotta fly under the radar until the race starts.

mcours2006 03-24-18 06:00 AM

Honestly, I've never seen a man wearing tights as casual wear, i.e. not involved in some kind of fitness (and/or commuting, courier, delivery via cycling) activity, either during, before, or after. It's not a thing.

02Giant 03-24-18 09:05 AM

General daily wear, absolutely not.

CAT7RDR 03-24-18 09:26 AM

We can all thank Joe Willie for breaking the "tights barrier" for men in public.

Compared to low slung jeans and butt crack, everything else is better.

So don't try starting a trend but if you must, keep it up in Canada, we have enough girly men down here as it is.

Seriously, I love the feel of them on a cold day but no, we are just short of walking around in public in our underwear as it is. There is little decorum, class or common sense left when going out in public any more. So no, emphatically NO. Frankly, I don't like seeing the women in skin-tights out in public.

This.

Not serious. Somewhat serious. OK, serious.

MikeyMK 03-25-18 02:34 AM

I have a pair of skinny jeans for days out on the bike, and i'm told they suit me (i'm skinnier than Russel Brand!) but i wouldn't even wear those for general/casual use off the bike.

I wouldn't wear tights even if i was in fancy dress or the Tour De France. That's just plain cross-dressing!

x2. I think our current PM matches this description.

Well said WNCGoater! :thumb:

From some of the posts here you'd think that wearing them while doing anything outside of fitness is akin to wearing full drag. Tights were originally worn by men exclusively not so long ago.

It's astonishing that in this day and age that homophobic comments like these are still uttered, especially here on a public forum.

I dont know about homophobic but from some of the comments there do seem to be posters who sound embarrassed about their own body image and want that insecurity to be felt by others.

As to the image above: Good for him. He's out there tryin to be healthy and owning who he is. Takes some courage.

just a fun post for all the men out there.
all of us guys who cycle or more into racing etc,, well not all but some of us roadies, prefer the tights to ride in the colder months etc
as its way better for movement on bike etc ,

anyways we all agree how comfortable they are etc

i ask does any one on here, more for the guys wear their tights for casual in day to day operations?
e.g. going to store, out in regular public when not using them for athletic purposes

or another would you want to wear them in public for day to day operation or just too shy
or do you think society in general should be more accepting to seeing guys walking around in tights?

would u be ok to see guys walking around in tights in public?

this could be fun
love to hear your feedback

Winter tights or cool weather tights make it a better ride in the correct temperature range. ALWAYS shower directly after the ride when you've had a chance to cool down.

And don't swish.

bigsky109 03-25-18 06:19 PM

No.....cycling attire is for CYCLING ONLY!

RichSPK 03-25-18 06:38 PM

Tights pair well with a tunic and a quiver.

Commonly see females wearing tights or yoga style pants.
Why should males be any different ?
When riding in cold weather, sometimes I don what could be describes as ski wear. Same clothes worn in the three ski areas near my area. Skiers can often be seen about town, in stores, etc., don't see this an issue? One vendor does ask skiers to not wear their boots in the store.
