No. I will slip something over them except when actually riding a bike.
I don't do this because I'm modest. I do it because I have a modicum of class. |
Looks like some here have a hard time differentiating aesthetics from ethics.

From some of the posts here you'd think that wearing them while doing anything outside of fitness is akin to wearing full drag.
It's astonishing that in this day and age that homophobic comments like these are still uttered, especially here on a public forum. No one here is "phobic" in any sense nor have they in any way suggested that. But it seems by YOUR comment YOU stereotype *****exuals as those who wear tights in public. Who knew? Have a little class. |

I really hope that was typed in the sarcastic font. :foo: I'll update my earlier post, I'm wearing my Levi's 511 (stretch material skinny jeans) right now as I sit at my desk... to some in this thread, that's bike tights. I'm no hipster, I'm a middle-aged guy with big thighs and a skinny waist - typical jenas cuts/materials don't fit me. |

No. Real men don't wear tights except for cycling or under running shorts in cold weather for exercise.
So don't try starting a trend but if you must, keep it up in Canada, we have enough girly men down here as it is.

I predict that in the near future All men will wear tights to do the grocery shopping.
It's a crazy world. Somebody ought to sell tickets. |
If I'm not at work or on my bike I pretty much live in baggy gym shorts. No tights for me unless I'm riding in the cold.

I don't wear tights except when cycling, but I'm not ashamed or afraid to go in a restaurant or store wearing them. Here's a scenario that plays out often. I have 2 brothers and 2 daughters that live in the Triangle area of NC where there's a nice greenway. My wife & I live about 1½ hrs away. Both girls bike and sometimes my brothers do as well, and when we get together for a greenway ride we usually eat breakfast before or lunch after the ride. None of us are gonna go in the bathroom and change clothes to get out of tights. I've also gone into retail stores on the way home and thought nothing about it. I don't see the big deal.
That said, my riding friend and I have stopped at a McDonald's or similar fast food to and from our ride. When the eatery is along/near the riding path some non-typical attire can be expected. I just wouldn't dress like that without a reason as I wouldn't wear a suit to a pool party or picnic. |
It makes me laugh. It took women a very long time to fight for their rights, and now they're not even allowed to be feminine anymore, as we steal every feminine symbolism from them and make it universal...

How does man wearing tights take anything away from the 'feminine symbolism' of women? Man wears suit and tie. Woman wears suit and tie. Do I feel that my 'masculine symbolism' is being eroded? |
Have you seen that thar Elvis boy shake and gyrate on stage ? It ain't even about the music these days, shameful is what it is. He cain't sing like Pat Boone, so he has to act like a monkey on stage. Soon they'll be letting women show their navels and wear 2-piece bathing suits on TV
Same as it ever was |
location, location, location matters in this issue
more progressive states, California coast states, fine. Northern states, ok deep south, no if you watch the show "Wicked Tuna" and saw Brad on the Fish Hawk wearing bike shorts while fishing. not a good look |

Well to be frank there used to be something call etiquette which I think a lot of people nowadays -- in an attempt to supplant for political correctness -- have forgotten about.
Fitness clothing breaks some rule of etiquette?!? Please show me the quote from your 1922 printing of Emily Post's book. Let's talk about the dozens of women wearing yoga pants in the grocery store ever time I go shopping... I'm sure every one of them is on the way home from the yoga studio. |
Function before fashion. At 54 I benefit from modern compression clothing for athletes. I am able to ride longer and faster rather than wearing baggy shorts and t-shirts. I have arthritis and gain support and circulation from quality compression "tights" like 2XU.
I do not stop at public eateries or mini-marts. Could care less what people in public think of me. If some random fat man wants to yell some disparaging remark about my attire, I consider it a projection. What matters is my own fitness and enjoyment garnered from cycling. |
on hot summer rides wearing only cycling shorts, I have been known to carry gym shorts to whip on to go into a town deli. after lunch, back in my trunk they go. lately tho, I just wear MTB shorts over my trishorts & call it my kit

Considering the taste of that average Walmart shopper, that's a poor example. I've seen them come out wearing bedroom slipper and pajama bottoms.

Well would it be appropriate attire to wear joggers to your wedding? I'm referring to the specific venue.

We're talking about stores and casual restaurants, and I've never shopped at Walmart (Target's corp headquarters is 10 miles from my house). Slippers and PJs are a false equivalence with bike kits/tights. |
Wind pants, jeans or shorts. Tights? Just no.
