Tights in Public

just a fun post for all the men out there.
all of us guys who cycle or more into racing etc,, well not all but some of us roadies, prefer the tights to ride in the colder months etc
as its way better for movement on bike etc ,

anyways we all agree how comfortable they are etc

i ask does any one on here, more for the guys wear their tights for casual in day to day operations?
e.g. going to store, out in regular public when not using them for athletic purposes

or another would you want to wear them in public for day to day operation or just too shy
or do you think society in general should be more accepting to seeing guys walking around in tights?

would u be ok to see guys walking around in tights in public?

this could be fun
love to hear your feedback

Just to hockey, sans shirt one day. Boy did the women's teams love me!

(I'd post the pics, but I'm fairly certain few here want to see that)

jefnvk 03-23-18 12:37 PM

To be serious though, I've done it a few times before/after hitting the MTB trails, driving around town in a normal coat and without riding apparel. Surprisingly few people even notice.

tagaproject6 03-23-18 12:53 PM

Still better than wearing jeans hanging low showing underwear.

winston63 03-23-18 01:03 PM

If I'm riding, I'm almost always wearing some kind of cycling attire. And yes, I shop, go to pubs, ride to work in tights/bibs/bike shorts as appropriate for the ride.

It doesn't bother me a bit, nor does it seem anyone else cares. But it's worth noting that there are a lot of cyclists where I live and it's not at all unusual to see cyclists in all sorts of public places wearing cycling kit. It seems to me that it's not terribly unusual here, and no one really pays any attention to be honest.

WNCGoater 03-23-18 01:12 PM

No. Real men don't wear tights except for cycling or under running shorts in cold weather for exercise.

So don't try starting a trend but if you must, keep it up in Canada, we have enough girly men down here as it is.

Seriously, I love the feel of them on a cold day but no, we are just short of walking around in public in our underwear as it is. There is little decorum, class or common sense left when going out in public any more. So no, emphatically NO. Frankly, I don't like seeing the women in skin-tights out in public.

+1

99% of the time I'm in a "public" place in my cycling kit, I biked to get there. So I have helmet in hand and other accessories, living near Minneapolis, most people get it and the rest remain silent.

The other 1% makes me smile - I drive to gravel races in rural areas and I have a habit of hitting a McD's for a breakfast sandwich on the way to race. Walking in with kit to get my pre-race food, I know I get a lot of looks. :thumb:

I took it to mean the OP was asking about men wearing tights just day to day out in public, NOT stopping during a ride and going in places with cycling apparel.

And if that IS what he meant, my gosh how many threads do we have to have about that?

79pmooney 03-23-18 01:17 PM

Yes, if I ride somewhere, I do keep them on when I go into a store or cafe or wherever. :) (I do sometimes bring those long baggy-ish shorts/swim shorts that roll up and fit in a jersey pocket.)

I'm cool with that. I could get behind that trend.

+1 more, although I'm a rare bird (being a cyclist) around home. I'll wear standard cycling gear into a store, coffee shop, restaurant, etc.

But since the tights get sweaty riding, and that's not particularly comfortable, I put on other clothes when I've arrived (and cooled off before changing at work).

Despite how good I look in them...... no.

Kontact 03-23-18 03:04 PM

Off the bike, I don't find tights to be more comfortable than pants or shorts. And they are more of a pain to put on.

I'm not shy about walking around in them when I'm riding, but going to the trouble of putting them on otherwise mystifies me.

Well, the problem for me is that almost all of my day-to-day casual business is conducted via bike so it’s hard not to conflate the two.

If I’m not riding (fairly rare) I’m clearly not going to wear any cycling clothing!

surak 03-23-18 03:25 PM

Tights aren't that far from skinny jeans... Jeggings exist, so it's not much of a stretch to expect male hipsters to someday decide to all wear them.

Right on! Couldn't agree more.

fietsbob 03-23-18 03:25 PM

90's Popular Seattle & NW ... cargo shorts over sweatpants , & of course Hoodies..

mcours2006 03-23-18 03:42 PM

Yes, all the time. The more sheer the better...

JK.:D Unless they made tights with lots of pockets where I can keep my wallet, keys, phone, apple/banana, I'll stick to my cargo pants and jeans.

Stopping at the grocery store and walking around in my cycling attire, some of the time in tights, sure.

Daniel4 03-23-18 04:00 PM

I wear my cycling shorts under my regular shorts or under my long wind or rain pants.

I don't care about being aerodynamic.

deapee 03-23-18 04:05 PM

Absolutely not.
