Hi guys
Ok, so I have a habit of doing this, silly of me.
I have been looking at a bike in Ebay, well been looking at a few over the last few weeks, but haven’t found much luck around my area.
I found one which is the right frame, looks to be in good nick (hopefully not nicked lol) but it’s a bit of a trek.
The guy had the bike on auction, and was selling it on a few sites, because of the location and my work schedule, I chose to ‘buy it now’. Plus I can’t take the bike on public transport during certain hours.
I asked to add the condition that I would pay on collection so I could see the bike first hand.
I feel that I have committed to buy but haven’t paid upfront. The bike looks like a 2011 model, the guy says it has had servicing recently new chain and rear sprocket.
Maybe I’m in a position to negotiate on price
It’s a Scott Sub 50 hybrid, the buy it now price is £140 and the auction started at £100.

It will work out however it does. As I understand it, you are committed, and unless you can prove absolutely that the ad was fraudulent .... you are the proud owner of whatever it was that was pictured in the ad.
You can always resell it if need be.

"I asked to add the condition that I would pay on collection so I could see the bike first hand." Was this condition accepted by the seller?
Unless the bike is not as advertised, I don't believe you have any room to negotiate.

If it's the 2011 single speed you may have payed a wee bit too much for it by bluebook resale price. But such a cool looking bike I'd say you didn't get hurt that bad. Doesn't hurt to try to haggle price if your picking up yourself but I wouldn't count on if he already has your money. Nice bike and simple to maintain I say Sweet Ride

Never, never buy a bike or bike parts sight unseen. There are too many things that can and will go wrong. However, now that the seller has a contract with you you have one of three choices. Risk getting a strike against your account, picking up the bike, or negotiating to pay the sellers listing fees if the seller is kind hearted. If you choose not to pay then the seller can issue you a strike. If you choose to pick it up you get what you're given. If you are really good at negotiating you can agree to pay the listing fees and the seller can cancel the auction. The first option will show all potential future sellers you buy from for a year that "you are a jackass." The second option, it's actually a good bike and you pick it up. The third option you agree to terms to cancel the auction and pay the seller a token fee.

BIN means you bought it, unless you agreed with the owner to an inspection/possible negotiation on price beforehand or can prove the ad was factually wrong. Non payment on your part could result in your eBay account being affected.
Although, I must say I've never seen an eBay BIN with a "pay in person" option. Might be a UK thing.

OK, maybe I just haven't paid enough attention with BIN, I just remember it going right to a pay now screen. Or maybe the folks I bought from only allowed PayPal, could be that too.

It does but you don't have to pay there, you can close the window at that point. You can choose one of the options that a seller has set. It's just been set up for years now where they try to make you use PayPal.

Yeah, you're kind of committed at this point to BIN at the price offered to BIN. Hope the bike is nice. If not, you're stuck either way.

I got the bike and couldn’t negotiate on price. He also listed it on Gumtree wish I saw it there first maybe I could have negotiated.
I did try but the hassle of getting to the place, and worrying about getting the bike home (which was a nightmare btw)
Bike looks a little rusty, he said the rear sprocket had been changed and some general maintenance done.
I’ve lowered the seat to the lowest point as I struggled to ride it, got a friend looking at it on Sunday to see if it really is a small frame, or if it was a good purchase
