Censorship by bot? Is that what we really need, really want instead of simply ignoring posts by those you dislike? What hardship is there in not reading someone's post?

It would be interesting(only if it was never communicated to the general population) if BF developed a robot job in the software to eliminate losers based the total number of people that placed said loser on their ignore list. Sort of a blind sampling of the population to ID people that are thought to be generally offensive. This would require fairly broad use of the ignore function. Again, it would only work (well) if this function/robot was never communicated to the general membership.

Orwell would be so proud of you :thumb:

Who knew the oh so real struggles of trying to navigate an online forum with only an ignore button to protect your delicate sensibilities.

I hope that someday you find true inner peace my brother. May the bots be with you.

The post you responded to didnt seem judgmental, it seemed analytical. Its simply an analysis of one possible way for a forum(or community) to go downhill. Stating a reality isnt necessarily being judgmental.

If I were to post that Pancreatic Cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer with only 5% living 5 years after diagnosis, that isnt me being judgmental, its me being analytical and just stating a reality.

I understand why the no duplicate threads rule exists- if it didnt, the same thing could be plastered across every forum and it gets messy.
At the same time, there is so much crossover in forums that I actually think some threads can exist in a couple different forums- and not just exist, but be beneficial.

A thread about a specific steel road bike could exist in both road and c&v.
A thread about a gravel bike could exist in both gravel and road.
etc etc etc.

Someone who posts a lot in c&v asks that forum about lighting because they know many posters and trust opinions- cool. They also post a thread in electronics because that may widen the net- cool. That hardly seems harmful. And given the likelihood that a lot of people who read c&v arent jumping into the electronics forum often(or ever), discussion of that topic can benefit others too, either in the immediate or months down the line as a reference.

I often wonder what general cycling would look like if all the threads were moved to 'appropriate' forums. The MTB threads in MTB, the road bike threads in road, the hybrid threads in hybrid, the mechanical threads in mechanics, etc. General cycling forum would be a ghost town.

Posts about the forums deteriorating are causing deterioration of the forums.

I wouldn't really call it censorship. More like "cleanup in aisle 3". People are removed(banned, sanctioned..etc) on this forum on a regular basis, thankfully(Mods..thank you for your work). There's a thread of banned folks way down the forum list..in forum News & Announcements subforum.. Most of the folks listed on that forum are seldom a surprise. Often there's significant correlation with folks on that list and my ignore list..go figure.. This is not so much about ignoring posts. Taking out the garbage is required to keep BF under control. (not an opinion..more, as stated above, an observation of how it works..or facts, but "facts" is often a loaded word that offend some folks..I was a data analyst in a former working life with an expected close grip on reality)

This makes no sense as an analogy. Please explain.

I have been through all these posts and pages and there was not one picture of a bicycle, a component, or podium!

I don't know that people are so much giving new members a hard time, but I have seen times when a few people don't represent the board well by being rude. I would wager that practically every new poster that asks how to adjust a derailleur or how to fix a flat found BF through a google search. Additionally someone wanting help because the chain keeps coming off their big box bike isn't going to be helped by telling them they should have bought a bike from a big name manufacturer. Bike snobbery does not promote this hobby.

From the forum rules page

DiversityWe’re a community of cyclists, from different backgrounds and with different perspectives on sports and life. At all times, we expect our members to respect that.
As the majority of members here are likely adults, it would be best if we acted as such and either reply with something helpful or not at all. If you don't want to answer a chain lube question, don't. If you want to argue with anyone online, do it through the direct messaging system.

Ha. funny you mention that forum. I was banned from viewing that forum by BillyD. I disagreed with the mod team moving threads over to it from c&v, especially ones that didnt actually fit that forum's parameters, and I made it known that I disagreed. So he banned me from viewing that specific forum and I still cant see it, unless I log out.

So far, it has turned out to be what I guessed it would be.

I was riding a bike in Post #4. But only the wool long sleeve jersey was presented. Winter is coming so I thought of it as an enabling component. ;)

You are right Wildwood .

So far, no one called me out on the fact that I complained about no pictures and

Here's one. I think it covers some of the topics being discussed in General. The paint is deteriorating. It has a triple. That might/might not make sense. It also could be too much gearing, or not. 9 speed brifters that could be Chinese Microshift knockoffs. Very few of the components match. Most are even different brands as a middle finger to Bike Bike. Built to be the bicycle version of Mad Max's "Road Warrior" motorized vehicle. Most importantly, the frame/fork was given to me by a member that was perma panned. We won't talk about him. The bike checks all the boxes. :thumb:

I voiced my thoughts on the ridiculousness of that sub-forum, too, but I guess I wasn't as outspoken as you. :D

Don't shortchange yourself. Lot more boxes checked.
You're going to die due to the lack of disc brakes. Or you will not.
Platform pedals on a road bike are just wrong. Or they are are right.
Carbon forks are death traps or are totally safe.
Blue bikes are the slowest. Or they are the fastest.

Sort of hard to tell from the pic, but that fork looks bent to me.

Hey now, those pedals are SPD on one side. Another topic for General! What's the best way to learn how to use clipless? Get yourself pedals flat on one side and clipped on the other. Do some biking with one shoe clipped and the other on the flat side. Or not.

seypat 11-16-21 10:49 AM

I have a blue one also, and it's shiny! Or is it purple? You decide. Listed as Iris.
