The wrench I mentioned observed that there at several schools of bar wrapping, and each is certain their way is The Only Way, and of course they have their reasoning, which makes sense to them.

But make no mistake: my method’s the best.

Edited to add the smiley. But my way is still best.

I’m still not sure why were talking about the Brooks microfiber tape… You’re the only person who’s brought it up.

I'm a fan of PRO Sport Control bar tape. Looks good, easy to wrap, can rewrap if necessary, durable, and not slippery in the rain / wet.

Do everybody a favor. When you're responding to big quotes, especially those with photos, crop the stuff out that people don't need to see again. Come on, it's right there in the post directly above. I really believe if everyone did this, we could achieve world peace.

And seriously, stop wasting bandwidth by re-posting everything in a post, especially photos, when everything is literally in the post immediately above your post.

Bikes: too many sparkly Italians, some sweet Americans and a couple interesting Japanese
My hand arthritis loved Supacaz 3mm but I have been disappointed with the life as the top layer of the tape wears quickly, and is truly ugly when it does. I also would like to find a tape with that feel.

Maybe compared to the Cinelli cork/foam tape or similar. But it's nowhere near the nightmare of the Brooks microfiber, and the end result is worth any extra effort.
Clean, smooth, and grippy. No bumpy effect on the overwrap. Basically indestructible. Easy to clean. I don't see a downside, which is why it's all I use now.

ps. any advice for a good locking silver tape?

There are better tapes now, but I still use it when I first finish building up a bike, before I finalize the position of levers and such. It's inexpensive, easy to wrap, and it works. It doesn't look too bad, either, though IMO Fizik Microtex Classic looks better and wears longer.

If black fits your color scheme silicone Fuse Tape is an affordable alternative to expensive bike specific tapes. Not sticky but it will fuse to itself after a day of bonding at each overlapping wrap on the bar. A tidy, long lasting installation. No need for additional closure tape at start of the wrap. Only $4.98 at Home Depot.

Bikes: Some silver ones, a red one, a black and orange one, and a few titanium ones
White tape becomes black quickly enough that you should just start with black.

Then it just becomes gray. Never seen any white tape or grips that could be made anything close to white again.

Nope. Silicone fusion tape is different from electrical tape. No adhesive. It fuses to itself without adhesive. Waterproof and can even be applied to wet items. Way better.
